Hatteras Model
Not Currently A Hatteras Owner
So many have read my previous posts and know we walked away from a 71 Hatteras (31); got nervous about FB fuel tank and the insurability; think about IF we could have made it work, so I wanted to post to see if anyone had done the tank replacement on this specific model; this model seems to be rather rare since Hatteras went to focusing on much larger boats; from my inspection of boat I know the tank is a single unit in the far aft of boat behind rear bulkhead; decent room around that area, but seems like the rear deck would need to be cut out (yikes!); or I have read about placing a bladder inside; just looking for thoughts; thanks!

i knew some 34's that did it and yes the back deck was a casualty, but it wasnt nearly as bad as it sounds.
the bladder was a non starter. the tank has glassed in baffles.
you would have to do all the same deck work to get the top of the tank off so you could hopefully get the inside of the tank smooth.
mine are under the aft bunks so it involved disassembly of them.
that was almost 20 years ago. time flies.
