  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
Where is the fan motor located and what is the part no for the replacement Grainger sells?I pulled the cover off this weekend and found only duct work.I know I've seen this posted here before.

Robby - on my 1979 43DC the aft head exhaust fan is accessible by removing the starboard storage cabinet in the salon - the four door unit. You then can look UP and AFT and you'll see the fan. Good luck - the space isn't large but I could get my 6-1, 160# self in there and work on mine.

Robby,
PM sent. When you find it please let me know. Man, my post was over two years ago. Ha-ha, man, can I procrastinate. I still havent found or fixed them. Seems like the more I use the aft shower fan, then better it runs. Heck, it just need to be used.

If i Enter the salon down the steps I have a sliding two panel storage space :If I tear that out I'll find the fan Motor.Kapish?

Robby, no, that sliding door unit is on the port side. Look to the opposite side - starboard - and you'll see a four door storage unit. At least that is the way mine is.

Our fans are mounted to pieces of wood that are glued to the inside of the hull. The outlet of each fan covers a hole in the side of the hull and has a scoop over the hole. Ductwork goes from the fan to the screen somewhere in the cabinetry. Our fans are tough to get out but possible. I clean the squirrel cage every couple years. The motors have oil holes on each end. A couple drops on each end make it hum like new. So, stop looking at the duct work, look on the inside of the hull behind those rear facing scoops.

WE dont have a 4 door slider unit .We have a two door slider under the windows. The entire back of the boat wall is mirrored over. Are you talking about under the right windows?

Yes - the right (starboard) side of the salon under the windows. On my 1979 model there is a four door (swing out doors) storage unit similar to the port side storage unit but larger. See photos.

Thats about the location for my ER vent blowers (1981 48MY). Seems a long way from a master head. Access for the blowers was simple.... just remove the screws in the trim that go into the afromosia paneling and lift out the entire shelving unit.

You are right - the exhaust fan is back (aft) almost to the bulkhead. I removed the screws from the trim and the whole unit slid out. The 12 volt panel for the electronics is located inside the second door from the left (one with the lock on it in the photo) but there is enough cabeling to allow the unit to slide out. Once removed you have to "crawl" back aft into the cavity to get to the fan.

Our boats are different .I have a two sliding door unit on both sides and no 4 door unit .Ours is a 73.

Then I would assume that you'd need to remove the one on the starboard side - right side as you're looking toward the bow.
