My engine room blowers have pilot lights on the panel in the bridge. The lights have a wire soldered to a terminal on one side and a resistor of some type on the other connected to a switch. The terminal broke off one of the wires right at the back of the light. I wasn't successful in soldering it back. I searched Sams and didnt find a replacement bulb with this resistor. Does anyone know of a source or replacement for this light. It appears the same as the bilge pump lights but not sure if they have the resistor as they are on a different panel

Can you add a photo? If it’s the same as mine I may have an extra.

I have replaced these before with bulbs from bulbtown.com . IIRC those ones are tiny screw in bulbs.

I am reasonably certain this is the one you need:
www.bulbtown.com/373_Miniature_Bulb_Midget_Screw_Base_p/373.htm

On our boat there is a resistor inline at the bulb housing so they are 12volt.

That’s the ones I have as well. Trick to get them out is to get a couple inches of a plastic tube that will be snug on the bulb. Push it down and then twist. Great way to remove and install. Good luck.

It will be a couple weeks before I get back to take a picture but I need to replace the entire lamp socket. The ground wire is soldered on the base of the socket at the back and the flag terminal it was soldered to broke off flush with the base. When I screwed the bulb out the lens seemed to be built into the red but it may just be corroded on. Either way I primarily need the socket assembly with the soldered on resistor

I’m not sure where to get the socket itself. Hopefully someone on the forum can help. If not you might have to replace them all to keep the helm uniform.

If this happens i would recommend switching to LED's. I have found some that are very close which i have used on the bridge bilge lights with resistors. I just soldered in some resistors and wire so i can replace them as I go. WP_20161113_15_20_54_Pro.webp

I posted the wrong number.

Anyone know the purpose of the resistor?

Yes. Blower circuit is 32v. Stock lights are 12v. Leds I suggested are also 12v. Resistors reduce voltage. Look up ohms law. :)

I understand Ohms law and PIE. I suspected this is what they were for but wasn't sure. Now that I know I will solder the lead off the resistor to one of the flag terminals off the LED light I bought at auto parts place yesterday. It is 12 volts. This should fix my problem except I will need to replace both lights to match and the store only had one in stock. I was hoping the resistor was there to make it into 12 volts and not as a dimmer or something

As far as I can recall the blower lights are not on the dimmer circuit only the gauges.

I think you are correct. I am going down Friday and will find out for sure

Had another wild idea today. I bought a replacement voltmeter on my dash from this site. Instead of having a metal back its plastic. The 32 volt light won't fit in the hole in back and a 12 volt light was provided with a bulb that I cant find a 32 volt replacement for. I am wondering if I can remove the 32 volt lamp holder and solder one of these resistors to its wire then connect the provided 12 volt bulb including a ground wire. I believe it will work however I am concerned if it will work hooked to the boats dimmer which the other instrument lights are connected. Has anyone done this or know the laws of physics in this scenario. I am wondering if the resistor will allow dimming when the 32 volts feeding it is reduced when the dimming switch is turned

Less in = Less out.

Ok the LED connected to the resistor worked once I got the polarity right. Had trouble getting the wires hot enough to melt the solder. Not sure if it was the resistor or what but wound up crimping it. Will try the resistor on instrument lights soon

Caprice do you have any info on the resistors. The Mouser lights are on 10 week backorder. I have found another replacement on that locally but need to know resistor info if you have it
