Engine Room Wall Cut Outs

I have seen some boats with the inboard engine room walls that have been cut to create a lower section between the doors that is removable to allow for better access to the inboard sides of the engines for maintenance and repairs.

Looking for guidance on this so that I can do the same thing on my 50 flush deck. How is cut out completed? How is it trimmed out? How is it held in place? Any interferences in the wall I should know about?

I think this was done by Hatteras on most of the split engine room motoryachts. Is is just held in with screws through the trim.

Without measuring my opening is approximately 2x3. Regular flat molding is screwed into the piece of wood that is your opening. The trim sits outside as a frame about 1/2" all around the opening. That 1/2 trim is screwed into the wall self in about 12 areas to hold it tight. Hope I explained this well enough.

Thank you for the reply. Is it the original trim from Hatteras? How wide is the trim? Is there any trim on inside? How are the sides of the panel and wall around the opening finished or are there bare? Would you mind snapping a picture of inside wall and outside wall showing the trim and panel in place? Here are the engine wall kut out on our 58 YF. The small hatch is for access to the oil filter and the sea water pump of the water maker

On the wide beam boats you can go thru that panel and stand up on a ledge (may be the top side of a fuel tank) It really comes in handy setting the injector height and valve clearance on the inboard sides!

It looks like the cut out is bordered by a 2x4 studs for the door frames and the bottom has double 2x4's that make up the bottom horizontal lip. what is the height from the floor of the bottom lip of the opening? I want to make sure I do not cut into these.
