  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
Does anyone know where i can get new engine room latches for a 1972 53 MY?
Thank you

Look on line at Paxton marine supply. Seems as that engine room latch has been brought up before. You may want to search, in archives. This site.

I have seen them come up on ebay occasionally. I always keep a spare, but I ain't sellin :)

Sky can you post a pick. The man who owned custom Marine fabricators ( he has passed away) in Newbern worked at Hatteras for a long time he would purchase things at sells at Hatteras he has a bunch of latches and hinges. I am always roaming through his stash. I would be glad to look the next time i go in which will be probley friday.

if the handle is getting loose from the base, i have repaired one on my boat when i couldn't find a replacement. take it off of the door, drill the center and tap it, put a machine bolt in it with loctite and tighten until snug. mine has been working for about 8 years

I'll buy a couple more if you find them.

I have one new set

This is one heck of a site all in one day two morse controlls and latches that are almost 40 years old. That deserves a toast. Almost forgot got to talk to one very nice man who lives across the salty pond with his wife and a 53c hat.

Are you selling them?

I'm looking for an ER door latch if anybody has a source or a spare? Thanks. Jon

Those are made of gold and diamond studs. Just so you know.

What happens to them that they need replacing? If the metal simply wears away on the fixed plate or the swivel latch why can't they be fixed instead? Can't they be built up with weld and ground to shape?

I have a friend that is doing a complete remodel of his 53’. I’ve sent him a note asking if he kept the latches. If he has I’ll ask what he wants for them and post it.

If the latch side is broken, you can send it to me and I will repair it. You pay freight, repair NC.

PM me.

Are you still repairing them (Apr 2025)?

I took all of mine off last year and did the repair. They are nice and snug now.

I need two (and can return a broken one where the handle has separated from the base if someone knows how to fix it) of these and am willing to pay.

Sam's sells the newer new ones but there was a change in the 90's and if you have the 70's/80's style it puts you in a position of having to replace all 8 of them at $150/ea when you really only need one or two, if you want them to match (which - of course you do).

If anyone is selling one or two please let me know.
