Engine room/Genny Room overhead insulation material?

When we did my father's boat with Soundown the liner was lead. They probably don't offer that anymore, since it's not PC. Heavy stuff, but it worked very well.
I think the lead was still available when I did mine. Soundown said the vinyl worked better as it was designed specifically for knocking down the low and mid frequencies associated with engines and machinery. I can't say how different it all was from the original since I changed out the engines and exhaust at the same time but my 46C was so much quieter after the work and seemed quieter than other 46Cs I've been on.
 
We did it in '82, or '83 and IIRC lead was the only offering at the time. It worked well, but if Soundown says to use vinyl, I'd follow their recommendation. The only reason I mentioned lead is because I assumed that is cause of the expectation that it is heavy.
 
We had the lead stuff on the 34 my dad had a friend that did acoustics and sound control. Stuff was great
