RSmith, You just opened an old door in a long sleeping part of my brain. Carson and Reed on their boats, Rudder Magazine.... WOW thanks for the memories.

p.s. Let's not forget the old Trojans made in PA Dutch country.....

Hi All,

Oh, I also coveted Rudder Magazine, and my uncle had an owens in about 1968 or 1970. About a 30' if I recall. All plywood. Wicked bouncy rolly rocky boats.

To my knowledge every panel in a Trojan was signed in the back by the Amish woodworker.

At one point the old man was looking at Trojans. We went to the factory in Lancaster Pa. Half the cars in the parking lot were black and all the chrome and bumpers were painted black.

Up in the North Country of New York the Amish are still true to their way of life. No electricity and only horse drawn black carriages. It is an odd scene to go to a Wallmart and see hitching posts in the parking lot.

The Amish contractor who looked at my house to replace the windows came down from Carlisle, PA. He had a driver who waited out in the car. The contractor also had a mobile phone. I was surprised to say the least. He is an avid Stephen King fan, also of those Bourne books, can't remember the author of those. Very much a man of the modern era- but Amish.

They did house windows for two of my friends up in Carlisle- I saw what they built and they are very well done. Can't wait to get them in my house and garage up here. And apparently they are going to install nine windows in a few hours.

Not that this has anything at all to do with boats.

Gene, if parking an old '41 Hatt in your back yard is what you want to do, go for it. It'll keep you off the streets. LOL

Walt, don't go getting any more wild ideas!

Aloha Bob & Gayle.....

Hope you guys are enjoying Hawaii. No crazy ideas, those days are over. I remember the "good old days" and the brands rsmith mentioned very well. I bought my first brand new boat around 1964. It was a 28' Trojan Seabreeze. It was a beauty with teak decks etc, but I wanted a little more space and the next year I traded it in on a 31' model. Over my boating career, I probably owned 20+ various boats including Owens in the 50's and a beauty made in Solomon's, MD called ""CruiseAlong, made by Davis and Sons, but none as good as my 4 Hatteras's.
