  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
41' CONVERTBLE YACHT FISH (1960 - 1963)
Bumped into this on the Bertram31 site(pardon my French & transgression) & had to copy/paste it. Some guy posted about wanting to put a tower on his 28. This was not the only reply, but they all said the same thing:

"I had a 28 with twin Yanmars, genset and all the other nice things we cram in our little boats. It was a snap rolling tender ass dog! Cobia fishing up here in a 3' sea would make you feel like you could reach out of the tower and touch the approaching wave with your hand. Under power it wasn't too bad, but when you have to stop you could toss yourself out. You absolutely couldn't fish in much bigger without full tanks for fear of being catapulted out."

Now any tower magnifies motion, but this is ridiculous!

You won't read "snap-roll" and "Hatteras SportFish" in the same sentence... er... except this one.

I my prior life as "Bertrtramp" .... I earned the name by owning a 25 Bahia Mar, a 28 FBC and 31 FBC at different times. The 28 is a tender boat as compared to the 31 and ALL of the Bertrams roll in a beam sea. They don't have the keel that we have. However they do run faster in a head sea, although a 31 in a chop is very wet ... like "bucket of water in the face" wet.

2 weeks ago I rolled my 60' Hatt far enough to submerge the entire corner of the transom. Beam seas are no fun in a deep V or a full keel but they get you home!
