Eastern TN advice, Watts Bar Lake

Floding on the Tenn-Tom can happen in a matter of hours. Been there, seen that. March would probably be a safer bet where rain is concerned.

Oh yeah, if you need a delivery Captain who’s very familiar with those waters, I know a guy. 

I would have though may June would have less current than early spring, but what do I know about t étuver system

We don't spend a lot of time on Watts Bar. Randy is gonna be your go to on that one.

I can tell you that your choices on the Ft. Loudon/Tellico side of the lock are going to be slim. On Tellico your only real choice would be Windriver or Tellico Marina. At Windriver you would just have to wait on a covered 90' slip. They're nice, and golf cart accessible. They also have a great view off the back of your boat. Tellico Marina is another 18 miles up Tellico. It's a beautiful area but a little farther off the beaten path. The biggest slip they have is a 60'x 20' so you would have to get on the end of a dock. Their address is Maryville TN but it's in Vonore.

If you think this area is an option let me know and I'll make a couple calls and see what it will take to get a slip. I'd be happy to talk anytime if you have questions about the area.

Thanks. Tellico would be option for a couple of years before we build and need something closer. We re heading up there mid October and I have already made a list of marinas I want to see.

You didn’t mention June. It’s all about rainfall. One big storm is all it takes.

We re just wrapping up a week up here enjoying the weather and scenery. Rented a ‘toon on Monday like we do every year to explore the lake. Weather couldn’t have been better the whole week!

Checked out the marinas on Watts Bar. Mostly wait lists except for Bay Side which is expanding and adding slips. Euchee’s office was closed but it seems to be way too exposed to NW winds with a long fetch. Terrace view looks nice but office was closed… will call

We stayed at a cabin at Spring City Marina. Very small and older marina but super protected. They may have room in the spring, looks like a possibility. Easy access and just 25 minutes from our land.

Euchee is definitely exposed to the point of having white caps in the marina entrance. Kept my 41 there for several years. It was so rough one night in the slip, I decided not to stay on the boat.

They kept talking about partially sinking containers as breakwaters, but when they finally brought some it, they ran them parallel with the wind. DUH.

Spring City is a neat little marina for sure. We stop there for lunch when we have the Allison performance boat rallies every June. They always accommodate us in the restaurant outside their normal business hours. Good food and nice folks.

Terrace View was full with a waiting list earlier this year. Kept the 41 there until I sold it early this year. Guess I just outed myself as a non-owner now. Guy took it to Spring City, so you may have seen it. Ironic our boats could end up being in the same marina after all these years, even though I no longer own it

I promise I didn’t sell it just because you were talking about moving to Watts Bar.

Update…. Was able to get a slip at Spring City Marina starting June. Uncovered (which I prefer) on what is like a tee head off the covered dock. It s bit rustic but for … drum roll… $225 a month plus power I love it . Paying $1900 here in miami with power.

We really liked the place, very protected in a narrow cove off a branch from the main lake.

There was also an 80’ covered slip at Terrace View Marina for $510

Planning on heading up there in June before hurricane season spins up.

Now comes the fun part: getting the boat ready and finishing all the projects.

Just ordweed a class B AIS, Simrad to go with the MFDs and AP. Not sure m going to put in a radar, I don’t think fog is a concern in June, is it? And the trip will likely be all daytime anyway with the long days we ll have.

We went north end of April and I don’t remember using the radar at all. On our recent trip south in November we used it almost every day. Even used it to enter a lock. I’m guessing June you wouldn’t need it at all. But as Sky said it’s possible. Obviously you can delay the departure until fog clears but if you run into it, it’s not always easy to stop or pull over. You’re way more experienced then I am, but I wouldn’t run without it.
