  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht

I have a grease gun onboard my 52c with an almost empty marine grease cartridge installed. In my three years of ownership, I have yet to find a need for it??? Any ideas??

Steering system comes to mind. There's many boats with zirc fittings on the linkage. Look closely for fittings it's not an every day tool but when you do maintenance you could need it.

My watermaker high pressure pump motor has a Zerk fitting for annual lube. While I do need a little grease now and then, that is the only reason I have the grease gun onboard.

Zerks on the outboard for the tender (steering)...

I use Pink Flamingo saltwater proof grease on every except electrical. I keep it in the gun just because it’s easier to dispense.

There was a big Water Maker on board when I took over stewardship, maybe that was it.

Lots of TD clutches have a zerk fitting on the output shaft. Hidden forward of the coupler and flange. Not for real lubrication but to keep the outer seal wet and clear. Maybe once a year needs a squirt.

This reminds me, My TD's are past due for a squirt.

AND, rudder post pillow bearings.

New Groco thru hull valves have zerk fittings.

anchor windlass ..........Pat

We had a 49 Gulfstar that had stuts (first one behind the transmission) that were inside the boat. They had auto-greasers on them they you had to reload occasionally.

The only use I have found for grease is the crane.

One drop of grease on the bottom of your pants and budget for a soft goods refit. That stuff gets everywhere.

There’s zerk fittings on our tachometer drives and I like to keep the throttle booster springs lubed where they pivot on the throttle levers.

Tach signal generators have a zerk fitting.

Yep, I have greased some up tachometer drives on customers boats.

On our Detroit's, I wish there was a grease fitting. Dual mechanical tach drive in a T config. One with the electronic tack pick up, the other connects to the mechanical drive cable for the ole synchronizer. On the back of the blower drive, this is one of my very small oil leaks, that after 20 years, I still have not messed with,,, yet.
It 's easier (and cheaper) to wipe up a couple of oil drops than open another Pandora's Box..
