  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
41' DOUBLE CABIN (1962 - 1965)
I’m meeting captddis’ wife, Linda for dinner this evening. I told her I would look her up the next time I was in town, and I’m in town.

Thought it might be interesting/enjoyable for her if everyone who knew Dave would say hello.

I do NOT want to turn this into an inquisition, but if anyone has anything they like for me to ask or share with her, this is the place to do it. If you have something more personal in nature or something you would prefer not to make public, shoot me a text, email or PM.

It’s been years since I’ve seen her, so we have some catching up to do. If she’s good with photos, I’ll share them here. I hated I wasn’t able to attend Dave’s service, but I guess this is the next best thing. I will share this thread and subsequent comments with her after dinner.

She might remember when I visited once to pick up a tool from Dave. He was gracious enough to lend it to me. Then we had lunch at their club and he insisted on buying while I was the one borrowing the tool.

In later years, I received a package from Dave. It was some original Hatteras 53 name badges that he had on hand and thought I could use. I will never forget that. He was just so generous. A great mechanic, a Hatteras aficionado, and just a great guy. He is missed.

We planted a tree in his memory.

While I never met Dave in person we had fair number of interactions and phone conversations. We've helped each other out on several occasions and he was just a great guy to work with. I do regret that we never met in person.

Dave is someone cut from the same cloth and it was an honor to know him. He is missed.

Dinner was great, and it was nice seeing Linda again. She originally picked Olive Garden as a meeting place, but I suggested one of the places Dave took me on one of several such occasions when I was passing through Clearwater. She said she would have to think on it and call me back.

She did, and we did in fact go to a family owned Italian restaurant we had been to before. I couldn’t make up my mind between a couple of things, so in true Italian fashion, I ordered both. Faghettabout it with all the choosing!

We talked, laughed and reminisced, and I told her that she and Dave had not been forgotten. I shared this post and PM’s with her, and she was very appreciative.

The home place is basically destroyed, and she has only FEMA to make her whole. Charitable high rollers take note… just saying. She’s thinking about the road ahead, but I told her to take at least another year before she even thinks about selling out. That property is money in the bank and no doubt holds a lot of memories. You sell it, and not only is it gone forever, but if she has a change in heart afterwards and wants to be back on the water, it may be out of reach. Told her I’m dealing with the same issue with my lake property in Tennessee.

In hindsight, I guess I should have asked our waitress to take a photo of us at the table, but you all know what I look like. With her permission, here is Linda aka Mrs. captddis. Miss you, brother Dave, but you are NOT forgotten.

Not sure why those posted sideways. Let’s see what happens with these.

It was nice of you to do this, Randy.

Dave and Linda were always nice to me, so I was just returning the favor. We had a great time.

Dave was a great guy always willing to help other people. I think he was 55. Gone way too soon.
