Where are they going to find the manpower to check boats? I can't believe there going to test many. Its a hit miss situation on the road now because or manpower and with the cutbacks because of the economy. It's doubtful for many checks. Most people use the local marinas for fuel. Maybe they will just check the marinas for compliance. But then who knows. In our area if the marina sells fuel they won't let you fill your boat with anything at your dock or in the marina. My last marina did not sell diesel so they would let me bring a fuel supplier of there choice to fill my boat and the marina would get a percent of the cost. To heck with the marina I payed enough to the marina to let them get money from the fuel I use. Did that once. Our club sells fuel at a reduced price for the JQP and gives our members an additional $.25 off each gallon.

Since when did the Fed have the power to tell you what you can burn in your own boat?

I understand rules that forbid suppliers from SELLING non-LSD, but checking your tank in your boat/off road equipment?

I can't buy non ethanol gas from my supplier in my county, but that doesn't mean I can't BURN it in my boat if I bring it by 5gal containers.

I have never had my boat diesel checked by anyone and I travel the entire East Coast. When we have been audited by the Federal Department of Transportation, they check the truck fuel storage tank and pull samples of any truck in the yard, completely ignoring the off road tank or the loaders and excavators. BTW/ when they do came they asked politely if they could take samples, telling you that if you refuse there is an instant fine.

Take a step to the left... what kind of ratio of used lube oil to fuel can you get away with without having obnoxious exhast smoke and fouling the plugs LOL. Seriously next spring I considered doing an oil change and burning it.
That would be 600 gallons (2400 quarts) : 24 quarts of oil. 100:1 is that too rich? ws

Our fleet averages about 2 million miles a year,if a fuel sample is pulled at a roadside inspection "or an audit in our own truckyard just past spring" and the fuel is anything but clear-to off green the operator will be fined. The only reason we discontinued our used motor oil/fuel blending program was to fall into compliance and not have problems with the Federal DOT.

If you got a fine based soley on color you should have fought it cause you would have won. Many off the shelf aditives turn fuel red and there is no law prohibiting you from dyeing your own fuel. The purpose of dyeing is so there can be no mix up in the supply chain but the DOT can not use it as a basis to fine you. In FL when they check they pull a sample now I'm sure that red fuel would be a reason to check further but they must check it and know it's over the limit before they fine. They can do that right on the spot but if they didn't they had no basis for a fine.

I don't think a one time 100:1 blend will cause any noticable harm. The question is how do you plan to adequately blend it? Don't just dump it in your tank and topp of with diesel. Most the oil will sit on the bottom of the tank creating a sludgey mess.

For that reason alone, I would advise against it.

Yer right... blending never occured to me. We'll just use it for dust control by the paint shed LOL ! Thanks for the input. ws
