We ran a 48' Ocean up the ditch from St Augustine to Norfolk at the beginning of May. I really don't think it was as bad as everyone says. There IS the occaissional "bumping" bottom, but it is soft and mucky. If you pay REAL close attention to PAPER charts (up to date) and your plotter, you should be ok.
Well like I said before we Hit in-between two bouys you could not be in the center of the so called canal any better. We hit sand bottom at 8 kts bent both wheels one shaft and tore the shaft saver apart!!!!!

So my point is do as much home work as possible and the forums as we all know is one of the best ways to get up to date Info.
