People say boats and other toys are expensive (airplanes, cars, etc). I reply, "they may be expensive, but they are still cheaper than a wife" LOL
As they say, "If it flies floats or f#*@s, lease it."

Been boating all my life. 2ex,s, four loving daughters. Finally figured happiness is a dog and a boat. Live aboard since 2014. Oh and a fridge full of cold ones.

Totally agree on all counts. Figured out long ago I like my dog and my boats much more than any woman I've ever had the "joy" of being with longer than a day.

What was that about a good dog?

As far as I know, loans are simply not available for older boats. People do HELOC's but that is not a boat loan.

Bought LUV'N LIFE in 2004. Paid cash. The Bride and I have lived aboard for 13 years. What memories and adventures. Met so many like minded people that will be forever friends. We have been absolutely in love with this lifestyle until just recently. I will be 70 soon and our priorities have changed. Counting the waterfront home we had we have been on or beside the water for over 23 years. We were raised country folk and are missing the solitude. In the process of building a log home surrounded by 30 acres of hardwood. The St Johns river will be about 30 minutes away so I see a pontoon boat in our future.
The gentleman that is buying our boat is 60 and is paying cash after a frustrating finance search. He is single and is every bit as anal as I am so I know the work I put into her is not going to waste. We close August 1st which is a benefit to us both. It is a joy to see the same excitement he exhibits that we had when we started this adventure.

I bought my 38c when I was 31

Wife and I bought our 58YF last year, I'm 58, she's 50, paid cash. We plan to live summers on it when she retires. Don't see any reason why it won't work, and with any luck keeping on at 70+ is in the plan too.

There, are, of course, the usual exceptions but a walk down the docks at our Marina would pretty much confirm Eric's statement. The only "young" people in evidence on these old Hatts are usually the owners' middle-aged kids with grandkids in tow. I'd say 60+ would be the young side of any of the vintage Hatt owners. We had a 30-something 53 owner on the dock but she sold it/bought an express cruiser. :(

When we bought the boat, the seller was 83 - he was in his early 70's when he bought it in the early 90's.

ASLAN: Current owner purchased at 61; po purchased at 63; ppo purchased at 64. Don't know much prior to these two previous owners. But I'm grateful because they poured almost a million dollars into the boat. It's cool to be able to read old surveys and invoices. I'll do my best to look for a younger next owner to help the class average.

Bought first Hatteras at 32 and our 6 moth old went shopping with us. Three and half years later we have another 6 month old and loving our boat even more. We only have trouble finishing projects in the timeframe we think we can. Cueerntly we are replacing the wallpaper. We are excited to continue have family time on the boat. We wished we had better cruising option you guys have on the east coast.
