  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
Before we set out to move our boat in October, we discovered that the large dock box on the bow, that many seem to have, was not attached to anything. We moved it to the side and lashed it down, but it appears that it has been that way for decades. Are most of them bolted through the deck? I would really rather not do that, but a 200 lb projectile on the front deck is not workable.

Both of the boxes I have on my Hatteras are bolted down. I can not imagine being in unforgiving seas with my boxes not secured. Bolt em down.

If it's just to transport it strap it down well and be careful. I dont like boxes on the deck. They get in the way of all my lines and fenders and anchors and junk.😂

Mine are also bolted down.

I tried to find the lock down brackets on Sams but was unable to locate them. That doesn’t mean they’re not there. I just didn’t want to spend three hours on Thanksgiving looking for something. I looked in all the locations I thought it would be but was unable to find it. I would suggest that you call Sams on Monday of next week, I’m sure that they carry the bracket you need.

Does the receiver plate get through bolted?

I have those on the flybridge seat I recently removed. They are not through bolted, just screwed in like the stanchions. However, they seem to have been epoxied as well.

Epoxied or 5200.

Thank you. That, I can do. I had pictures in my head of headliner removal.

What is the longest screw that is safe to use on the deck of a 1973 43DC?

Lightweight stuff. They were used on my boat and eventually water found its way thru the light screw holes and created soft spots in the deck. When I bought her this summer, I cut out the punk and replaced it with a piece of 1 inch oak and patched everything then got four 1 1/2 stainless L's and through bolted them to the box and deck.... now they'll take anything thrown at them and sealed nicely... shouldn't ever have an issue there again.

Walt P had what I think is the best solution which is to glass down four outside corners to the deck and fasten to them so nothing penetrates the deck.
