  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
42' CONVERTIBLE (1971 - 1978)
I recently purchased '78 42C with 6-92TAs and when I took possession, the air filters were missing. I'm hoping that with my measurements the K&N filter (pn 599-RU-3280) is the correct substitute (6" flange dia, 7.5" base dia, 5" top dia, and 10" length). Anyone confirm this?

I'm also going to change the oil in both mains, trans (Allison), and genset. I was able to get all the necessary genset filters, but the Detroit service manual is a bit ambiguous when it comes to oil, fuel, and other filters.
Does anyone have a quick part number list for replacement filters?

Thanks!

When I bought my 48MY with 1980 6V92 TA 425 hp the only exact replacement filter was sold ONLY through worst marine at something like $85 each.

Here is a list of the filters and such that I use:

Primary fuel - Racor 2020PM 30 micron
Secondary Fuel - Wix 33120 or NAPA 3120
Oil - Wix 51970 or NAPA 1970 spin on
Transmission Cartridge - NAPA 1138, Wix 51138

Also, you need to use straight 40 weight oil. My manual from DD said 10/40 but that was superseded. NAPA 75118 is good and easy to find.

Zincs - Camp 8515850 with square nut. Change at 6 month intervals to minimize risk of breaking off.
Impeller - Jabsco 17936 good for about 300 hours before cracks start to form.

Thanks, Bob, I was able to get most of those filters on eBay. My transmission is cartridge, and the secondary fuel filter is a sock filter (Fram C1169). I ordered 15 gals of Shell rotella T1 sae 40 a couple weeks ago for $70/pail.

Would you happen to know the coolant filter pn and the coolant type & capacity?

Racor 2020n-30 from racorstore 4-$54
Secondary fuel:E-Bay Fram c1169-$8.79 ea.
Oil:E-Bay Luber LFP911-$12.99 ea
Trans: E-Bay WIX 51138 3-$39.95
Air Filter: JEGS K&N 599-RU-3280 -$55.99 ea.

I'm guessing I can use the same oil for the main and trans for the Northern Lights 8KW genset (M753W2)?

Check the generator owners manual. 40 wt might be a bit viscous, but may be OK in SFL.

One caution on Rotella, it is at the upper limit for ash. The NAPA is comfortably below it. NAPA = Valvoline. See ash levels below. This is probably 10 years old.

Exxon XD3____________.80%
Mobil Delvac 1240______.80% (if you can still find it)
Castrol Assuron________.80%
Valvoline Fleet Plus_____.80%
Delo 100______________.85%
Texaco Ursa___________.85%
Shell Rotella__________1.00%
Valvoline Fleet Guard Plus SAE 40 also meets the 0.8% spec

You're right, Bob, the genset calls for 10W-30. I pulled all the panels in the salon to get familiar, and lighten up the space, I was pleasantly surprised to discover a jabsco oil changing system already installed. Guess I overlooked that detail from the survey.
