Does anyone know the logistics to traveling to Cuba? My brother in law has to go there at the end of June. He's afraid to ride small prop planes for some reason so he said he would have to charter a small Private Jet, or a boat from Key West. Does anyone have any insight on this or know if there are charter boat in Key West that are able to legally go to Cuba?

Thanks

Tony

Most major airlines are already running charter flights to Cuba, including American and others. Not sure what the rules are these days but they ve been relaxed

There are also flights thru Mexico and nassau with no restrictions

I doubt he will find charter boats for the trip out of key west

Can't imagine why he'd be afraid to go in a small prop plane... LOL. Frankly I find them terrifying. I think I'd rather do the ninety miles in a boat.

Has anyone made the trip by boat yet?

Last time I traveled to Havana by boat was in 2004, around the time Bush scared much of the boating community away from Cuba. The number of American boats going to Cuba has slowed to a trickle ever since. As a result the facilities at Marina Hemingway have deteriorated. There are crumbling docks, exposed wires and rows of abandoned, falling down condos at Marina Hemingway. In addition, the government in all its wisdom decided to shut off portions of the marina to anyone but Venezuelan government workers with special passes. This was confirmed the last time I stopped by the marina in 2014 because the pool area was off limits. In short, Marina Hemingway, which used to be great, has been run into the ground by the Cuban government.

You have the numbers to back this up? I mean, compared to taking an Uber down I-95?

Headed down June 11 to fish a "sold out", 80 boat, tournament at Hemingway. Should be alot of boats running off generator as no way does the marina have electrical capacity for that many boats. This is a sanctioned "athletic event" the first of three, the other two held at the new marina in Varadero (sp?) later in June. Will report findings upon return.

Wow. This must be new. Keep us in the loop and take some pictures. The last couple times I stopped by Marina Hemingway there were hardly any boats there and virtually no American boats with the exception of a few ragboats.
