  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
58' TRIPLE CABIN (1970 - 1976)
To any of you members who may be in the Chattanooga, TN area, I will be making my way down there this Friday and spending the night at the MarineMax floating dock at the Chattanooga waterfront.

Ole' Nancy Cay sticks out like a sore thumb amongst the Sea Rays and such, so I won't be hard to spot. The plan is to leave out Saturday morning sometime (not too early) and head downstream to do some leaf looking through "The Gorge". We'll do a 180 at Hales Bar and come back to Chattanooga for another overnight stay before heading back to Caney Creek on Sunday. Maybe we'll take in The Aqaurium again for good measure.

Anyone interested in a day trip on Saturday, or drinks/dinner on Friday or Saturday night should give me a call. 800/251-9992 days, 865/617-6212 cell. I'll have plenty of room inside and out for the cruise part. Can't say anything about overnite accomodations onboard as I am still waiting to hear back from some friends who would leave from here and stay onboard.

It's always fun meeting new (and old) Hatt people, so don't be shy!

You got zapped again :p

Hey, I thought my zapping days were behind me here at the bar. I reckon I've asked for it (literally) a couple of times though. The other times, like today's "Someone To Watch Over Me", I guess I must have missed something.

Hey, see if you can make it to Chattanooga without losing my phone number and we'll go boat riding, Southern Style!

Let's see, we drove thru Chatt. last weekend on our way to Murfreeboro while you were in my home state.(Heck I was born and raised in Ft Lauderdale!)
Admirall still making noises about living up there a few months a year.
Told her when they ban smoking in resturants I would consider it.
Would of meet up with you had the weekends worked out.

Hey Bubba, just so you don't get snickered at, it's Murfreesboro! I'll be there delivering a safe next Saturday.

Hey, maybe we can do a time share with my 41DC here in TN, and your boat down on the right coast. That way we can be in two different places at the same time again!

I did get a call from a certain member in the Atlanta area who owns a lesser quality boat and wants a Hatt, but I won't tell anybody who he is. :D I think he is going to try to come by to say howdy and maybe take a 3 hour tour on Nancy Cay.

Too bad we didn't cross paths when you were in my back yard. Holler ahead of time when you plan to do it again, and we'll go blow up some mailboxes or something!

PS I'm with you on the smoking ban. It sure is nice to go into bars n FL where food is served and not have to suffer through all that second hand smog.

Dang it's ccccold up here tonite! It's supposed to be in the 20's in the morning, but Nancy Cay is in heat!

I have to admit I've neglected the old girl lately, she's just been a floating hotel sort of like Freebird. She needs a good fluff and buff to feel loved again. I suppose she'll have to be content to go out in public with her curlers, housecoat, and no make-up cause I'd turn her into a popcicle if I gave her a bath in the morning.

It is supposed to be sunny and warm up into the mid to upper 50's during the next couple of days, so it should be pleasant enough when we're cruising. I'll use some free water at MarineMax to spiff her up a bit Saturday.

Invites are still open for anybody interested in a day cruise from Chattanooga. Looks like all my friends are booked for the week-end, so me and Mamma and little Bubba, Jr. (Ryan) will be on our own for the night(s).

Okay, I was saving this as a last resort, I'LL PAY $500 TO ANY HAPPY COUPLE WHO SHOWS UP AT CANEY CREEK MARINA BEFORE 10 TOMORROW MORNING AND AGREES TO A ROUND TRIP!!!! The gate code is BR549.

Randy, just for my future reference, how long do you expect your trip from CC to the 'noog' to take - at what speed? I haven't done that stretch in a long time, and envy your opportunity. The gorge is a beautiful run - I usually anchor for the night off the "Bat Cave" just above Nickajack. Sorry I can't join up. Its aways great to be "in the 'noog."

Hey, just got back (in case you didn't notice) from the "Gorge" trip!

It was a total hoot! There were some surprises though. Shortly after I locked through Chickamauga, I found myself surrounded by hundreds of boat women!

Seems there was some big national skulling regatta with teams from all over the country, maybe even the world. The only negative was a no-wake zone that stretched for what seemed to be about 20 miles! I did okay going downsteam, 8mph and barely a ripple! Coming back up was a different story going 4mph against a 4mph current. Yeah, you guessed it, I was leaving a wake like I was running 8mph.

I got an earful of handheld airhorn through my hailer which was set to listen, and I got fussed at by a duck trooper. I tried to explain that I would make a wake even if I were anchored in that current! The duck trooper suggested I "walk" the boat as if I was in a marina with big diesels that idle at 8mph (been there, done that). He even gestured by twisting his two hands back and forth as to show me how to do it. Yeah right Bubba, like you've ever run anything but a single engine outboard! No way am I going to do that for five or so miles! I'm considerate, but not THAT considerate. Besides, it made things more interesting for the paddlers. They seemed bored until I showed up! They were actually going faster than I was headed upstream!

To answer the question as to how long it takes to get to Chattanooga, it varies. Sometimes you hit the locks (Watts Bar, and Chickamauga) right, sometimes you don't. It's about 90 miles from my marina to the city waterfront, and I cruise at 20mph @3,000rpm. You can do the math!

We went as far as "Steve's Landing", a waterfront restaurant in Soddy Daisy, and spent the night at the marina there. We didn't get there until about 7pm, so I asked our waitress about transient dockage. She came back to the table after checking, and she told me it would be $8.00! I asked if I could stay forever, and she said no, I could only stay one night for the $8.00! No, she didn't get it (kind of like some of you guys on here). She came back a few minutes later with "Steve", the owner. He said he was sorry, but there had been a misunderstanding as to the rate. It was $20.00 per night! I said no problem, and I had to giggle to myself remembering what Carl paid to dock the GuzCruzer in South Beach per night.

The next day, we got up bright and early and headed downstream. We locked through, waded through the paddle boaters, and headed to "The Gorge". It was absolutely beautiful with more color than I can ever remember. No, I was with Mamma and little Bubba, and I didn't have anything to drink! Everybody I called had plans for the week-end. It is football time in Tennessee you know. BTW, SwissMiss called me to rub it in when LSU cheated and beat us at home!

Another surprise awaited us at Hale's Bar Marina, the designated turnaround point and unofficial end of "The Gorge". Seems they were having a little fall color festival with rides for the kids, and lots of good food! It was good being able to use my Southern accent, and I fit right in with the locals finding myself engaged in various topics of conversation. We hung out there for a couple of hours, and then headed back to the dock for the return trip to Chattanooga where we spend the night on the MarineMax dock ($41.00).

It's always interesting to see what you will run into when you're out on the river. At the dock at Hale's Bar, there was a new Fountain 35 or so footer. I made small talk and told the "Elvis" story about me and Chris meeting Reggie in FTL. Around the corner was some sort of go-fast boat with twin Viper motors peeking out from under an open hatch! Beside him were a couple of 30 foot or so cats with Merc 300's. These guys would catch up to us on our way back up to Chattanooga. Michelle was handling the camera, and she was about one half second too early on the trigger or she would have caught the Fountain's outdrives about 5 feet out of the water crossing our wake!

As always, I had the only Hatteras to be seen. Ole' Nancy Cay always draws plenty of onlookers when she makes an appearance. People can't believe she is a '65 model when I tell them. I sure did enjoy running her this week-end, even though I had to replace all three batteries as my automatic battery boiler lived up to it's name! I hadn't run the boat in over two months, and I forgot to switch the stupid thing off. The batteries were dry as a bone. I tried watering them, but I couldn't even jumpstart with the marina's battery pack.

The trip back home was uneventful, just more beautiful scenery viewed from a reverse angle. We stopped at Twin Cove Marina and had lunch at the restaurant there. My little fellow, Ryan (3 years old), has become quite the lady's man (wonder where he got that?)! A couple of nights ago, I heard his first pick up line. He asked a pretty girl sweeping the floor if she would like to go to his house and see his John Deere tractor bed! He found another pretty girl at the restaurant at Twin Cove. He asked if she wanted to go see "Daddy's big boat"! That's my boy!!!

Oh well, are ya'll sorry you chastised me for one liners now? :D I've got Michelle trying to figure out how to post pictures on here, so I'll show ya'll how things looked once we get that part figured out.

Just looked back to see if I missed anything.

What's the deal with the additional zapped threads guys? I know there was something on this thread by Paul45c and myself that seems to have disappeared. I certainly don't remember anything "zapworthy" though.

Yes, I have read the "rules" about posting on here, but I guess I need a bigger radar to cut through the fog.

Here is one of more pictures to come. I'm still trying to figure thing thing out.

Uh oh, what happened to the water in this picture. Oh well, it's getting late. I'll get it figured out tomorrow.

Hey, it's tomorrow, and the water is back! Okay mods, are ya'll messing with me again? :D

Randy,
Sorry i wasn't able to make it up to say hello. I ended up having to get my current boat from the baboons that have been working on it and clean up from the heard of apes they apparently allowed on my boat during the time they had it and then drive it up to my marina where i was fotunate enough to proceed to rather nicely stab my thumb with a surprisingly sharp steak knife (ever try to get napkins out of the galley cabinet while holding your other hand below it to catch all that blood that is coming out and try not to ruin the carpet???). Oh yeah, and then last night I got to go to 2 art gallery showings with my wife, one of which had a live "art installation" that consisted of a 20-ish year old girl hopping around crushing piles of acorns while being wrapped in plastic stuff for 45 minutes in 28-30 degree weather. Clearly, that is obviously more fun than going on the TN River!!!! :D

Luckily even my wife was shocked at how lame the art thing was! Haha

Hey, that art show sounds pretty interesting to me! A plastic wrapped 20 something honey stomping around making art? Hey, I wouldn't mind being plastic wrapped and making art........uh, never mind.

You missed it son! That was a heck of a pretty ride. I know I joked around about it, but I have decided to keep my 41DC at least until I come up with a single stationary Hatt rack! Every time I run that boat I fall in love all over again! Too bad I can't say that about the wi....., uh windshield wipers.

The old girl is fast, pretty, and comfortable as a home away from my home away from home. I can't wait to get my 58 into the kind of shape the 41 is in. Hopefully things will get worked out one way or the other at home, and I can focus all my attention (and money) on one boat.

You're finally talking sooth, ADHDBird! ;) :D Music to my ears! Well done! I didn't necessarily say keep the 41DC, but I'm damned glad you're not looking to replace that 58TC already! That is, at least until your next bout of "I see a boat and I WANT it!" syndrome. :p

Hey, once all the smoke clears at the homefront, one way or the other, I will buy a bigger boat if I have any money left. That '93 70CMY I saw at FLIBS had me written all over it. I'd love to break into the charter business and out of the safe business. Either that or just have one real nice boat instead of a bunch of smaller boats and far too many toys! Oh well, that's another subject.

Meanwhile, I've been thinking about a tow dolly to pull my 41 behind my 58 so I can have the biggest Hatt on the forum. I'm also working on twin hydraulic covered passarelles to link the two together.

Hey, you reckon I'd fit in around Boca if I had a 58TC with a 41DC guest house out back? Did we see any 100 foot slips around your house?

Uh, I don't know, SB...I think Boca just got rid of the last of their mobile homes no long ago! You'd be dragging them back to that kind of image, you crazy caravanner. :D

Bolt them up transom to transom. The trailing edge of the aft boat should make it slice through the water like butter.

Better yet put one in the Bahamas and one in Fla and then use the gofast boat to go back and forth.....There I just solved all your problems ;)

Alright, this is my thread, and me and JB can go back and forth on this one a minute.

My tow dolly is of the pontoon variety without any wheels. You reckon that will fit in okay? If not, the marina may have to open a different section like Doug did on this forum.

One way or the other, I will find a way to fit in. That's how the guy who invented Kinky Yachting jelly got started! :D

Transom to transom, hey, now there's a good idea! Think of all the money I can save on those passarelles, and I'll never have to turn around or back into a slip again! That will let me keep the hours about the same on both boats and lend real meaning to the phrase people use when they tell me I don't know if I'm coming or going!

The Bahamas/FL thing sounds pretty good too! Could I get around those stupid fees and all the customs crap if I used the Bahamas as a home port on the documentation of my 58 (which I have yet to do cause I thought I may sell it quick)?

Randy,
Your wife and son were along on the weekend cruise, correct? Did it ever occur to you that maybe, just maybe, she wants to own the "Nancy Cay" as her own?? You know it's not unheard of for a woman to own a real boat, a HATT on her own! Just something to ponder as you cruise..... (oh boy, I can hear it coming now! ;) )

Yep, the whole famn damily was on board. She knows better than to take a man's son, his gun collection, his '72 Blazer, or his Hatt. She is a Southern lady, and she knows where to draw the line.

Michelle is a big girl with a mind of her own and a good paying job. If she wants her own Hatt, I'll be more than happy to help her find one. If things go south, I'll put a Hatteras sticker on my deck boat and offer that one to her attorney. He'll probably never know the difference.

Meanwhile, I'm always on the lookout for a REAL boat woman who can handle several lines at one time! :D Finding one who didn't obtain her Hatt through a divorce or death would definitely be a plus. But hell, if her's is bigger than mine, I don't care how she came to own it as long as I get to drive!

Hey YottsmanBill, I got a suck......uh, potential buyer for your submarine!

PS I just noticed this was your first thread! Was it good for you?
