  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
So, all of a sudden the fan stopped working in the aft cabin. The display would show the fan as on, and the compressor would come on, but the fan would not. A quick call to my independent AC guy and the diagnosis is a bad "Q Logic Power Board." As a temp fix he jumped around it, but now the fan is on HIGH all the time, the only way I can turn it off is at the breaker in the engine room. A few questions...

1. Does this sound right?
2. Anyone know where I can get a used/refurbished one?
3. is this a common failure and would a used/refurbished one be a poor choice?
4. Where would I find it, and is this something I can easily change out myself?
5. Any additional thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

1. Does this sound right? Yes very possible.
2. Anyone know where I can get a used/refurbished one? Q Logic is a new product...Not likely available as refurbished...
3. is this a common failure and would a used/refurbished one be a poor choice? No not a common failure, but it can happen as with anything electronic...
4. Where would I find it, and is this something I can easily change out myself? Any Cruisair dealer (including myself) can get you one $215.00 retail...Yes you could change it out if you are handy & can follow instructions...But know that if you mess up & blow the new one it's on your nickle...If the servicing dealer blows it it's on his nickle...
5. Any additional thoughts? Interesting you have a 1980 53 MY with Q Logic...When was it retrofitted...Maybe it's under warranty ?...Are you sure it's Q-Logic and not SMXII, SMXir, or SMXht ?...Makes a difference in the board...

Thanks in advance!

Steve~

I had all new blowers with integrated aux heat installed in late 2008. Unfortunately the Cruiseair dealer that did the work, did me wrong, never provided any paperwork other than a hand written invoice with no part numbers and refused to give me anything more, so they never got their final payment. I'm no longer on speaking terms with them. lol

I'm going based on what my independent guy said. I explained my situation (fiance recently laid off, budget VERY tight) and he did a work around and jumped the board while I try to find a used/refurbished part. He said Q logic. But is there a way for me to double check? What would the board/box look like in the engine room? Any way to double check which one I need? The controls for SMXht and Qht look alike on http://www.dometic.com and this looks like what I have:

Did the system work when they got done? If so you should have paid but that's not the real issue. You were unhappy with the paper work so you didn't pay. That's not even funny. What did you think? Did they steal the stuff and install it in your boat?

If the work was done properly why did you not pay?

I guess if they had a nicer looking invoice you would be calling them now to get it fixed.

Take the money you owe them and use it to buy the parts from Steve r another local dealer and get it fixed. I bet you still have some left over too.

While you are on the internet you may want to check for liens on the boat too.

Buy a new board from Steve and be done with it. 215.00 for a properly operating unit is a bargain.

They got MOST of their money, and they did shoddy work. Not sure why you assumed the work was good. maybe because i didn't come out an throw them under the bus? I'd bet with that attitude, you must own a business and have crappy customers. Or you assume because I'm young that I'm cheap? I will happily pay for what I get. Do great work and charge me even a little extra and I will brag about you to everyone I know. Hell, my independent AC guy is NOT cheap...but he's GREAT! I don't want to bash them but I got less than I paid for. They scratched the serial numbers and part numbers off everything, left a mess behind, left no documentation, and Cruiseair wouldn't honor the warranty due to the lack of proof that i actually bought anything. They damn near got sued over it. So don;t bash me for refusing to pay the last couple hours of labor.

Certainly can/will, but now I'd like to confirm what I need. And all I wanted was to see if there was a possibility of used/refurbished. Seems like you don't know tough times, or maybe you do but it jsut didn't come across. Every penny counts right now as my consulting business is definitely down, and now I'm supporting two households completely.

My business if off 50% I guess that is tough. However buying used electronics are rarely cost effective.

Consulting. Isn't that charging for an opinion that was not asked for?

Hopey changey just don't cut it? Redistribution of wealth not going your way?

What happened to the Tatoo business?

Damn near is not enough. If something was not working you should have had it fixed. If it was not properly installed you should have had them clean it up.

Tattoo business? My ex and I have tattoos, but that was never our business. I've been in IT Consulting since 2005. The Hope and Change haven't been great, still better than the alternatives. Both parties suck. Like I said back in the days of political debates in the other forum, my vote wasn't FOR Obama, it was against the Republicans. The dumbocrats could have run Donald Duck and i would have voted for him.

It all "worked" but the install was shoddy, very poorly done and messy, not at all fitting of a Hatteras if you know what I mean. They simply stopped returning calls, so I stopped worrying about the last 5 or 6 hours of labor charges. They sent a total of 2 invoices for the past due amount and when I left a message saying they'd get final payment when the work was completed satisfactorily and proper paperwork/documentation was delivered...they stopped asking for the money.

So...the question remains...how can i tell which board I need? The displays APPEAR the same. Any tips on IDing the board and what would the box it is in look like?

Open the box and get the model off of the board or off of the box.

Oh, you mean the Baltimore Tattoo Museum, I'm not an owner, never was. Just had the right pull. As for Amanda and I, it just didn't work for a multitude of reasons. In the end, the best thing she ever did for me was leave me. When she left, I crashed HARD, my world fell apart...you gotta hit rock bottom sometimes in order to come back up. That was nearly 2 years ago. It greatly changed my life. It allowed me to become a much different person.

There are several boxes, not sure which one to open up.

Hope things work out. Breakup of a marriage is the second most stressful thing in life.

No easy solution, you will have to follow the wire. If the fan wires were jumped, that should be the box.
