Cruise Air rotary knob controls

I understand that there is a way to wire the controls that when the compressor cycles on/off it will also control the water pump. Does anyone have the wiring diagram on how to do that?

I just followed the compressor wires and then followed the pump wires. Once i identified where they were landed on the terminal strip i moved the pump "hot" wire to where the compressor "hot" wire was. I also move the fan wires there too for the winter months. I move them back in the summer.

There really wont be a diagram to tell you how to do it...All installations are different but...

On the 53 MY if you open the 4 electrical boxes on the condensing units in the engine room you should find a terminal strip in each one....

The top wire (and maybe screw) should be Purple...That's compressor hot.
Then there should/may be a screw painted Red...Red is pump hot.

Move the wire that is under the red screw...It should be a two conductor wire that you can follow out to the pump relay...Up to the purple....

The other conductor of the two will be on the White or Black/Red depending on if the unit is 230 or 115 volt...Leave it there...

You will need to do all 4 units the same way...Otherwise one of the others could keep the pump running with it's fan...

Though of course, If you are running all 4 systems, even with the wire/s moved to compressor...One of the 4 thermostats will likely be calling for compressor at any given time...Rarely do they all shut off...

You can also make the change on the back side of the 3 knob control, or at it's terminal strip but the engine room method is easiest to explain & do.

If your condensing units are old enough to have the white wire plug on the side of that box instead of the newer terminal strip inside....Then we will need to do it one of the harder ways to explain...Not a big deal but Hatteras didn't use Cruisair wire & wire colors to run between the engine room & the switch...

Do you have separate pumps for each AC? If not, there ought to be a set of triggers that control the single pump. In my case I have a single 120V pump, three 120 V AC units and one 240V unit. Any one AC unit will trigger the pump.

Steve: for your information the boat is a 1978 so do you know if that vintage used the white wire that you reference in your post?

To save time, would you be willing to supply the more difficult method assuming these are old enough not to have the terminal strip?

I meant a White plastic multi-wire plug on the right side of the electrical box...If it has one of those, then it won't have a terminal strip inside...It's also very possible that one or more of those 1978 units have been replaced by now

In 78 I'm not sure if it had the plug or not...It could, but I don't remember exactly when they made the change...

As far as the alternate method...I don't remember Hatteras's wire color conversion to Cruisair without laying eyes on it...

I can say that it is still as simple as moving that one pump wire which in the Cruisair side of the wiring would be move Red to Purple...But you move the Hatteras wire, which should be a red wire with tracer...but I don't remember the tracer color...This is if you are at the 3 Knob control's terminal strip which should be mounted within 3 feet of the control...

If you are at the back of the control...On the top switch....You should find 2 wires that are piggy backed onto one terminal of that switch...One has a red that goes out to the fan speed control just below the main switch...That one stays on that terminal....It's the other red that you remove & move it down to pair with (piggy back) the Purple that is exiting the thermostat & headed out to the terminal strip...
