One thing is for sure- In the business of shopping for a 30 year old big boat; you will do a lot of travelling and you will kiss a lot of frogs
No words were better said. My lips still taste like frog.

That's why it took me 2 years to find "the one".

From a brokers standpoint- No one has anything to lose here really. If buyer 1 makes a low offer and the seller doesn't take it, it at least softens him up for the next offer from buyer 2, who still gets a good buy. If the seller takes the low offer from buyer 1 and then the survey reads like a dime store novel, well buyer 2 saves alot of time and money. If the survey is good, then buyer 1 gets a good buy, and buyer 2 has a benchmark sale from which to negotiate on the next boat.

We did indeed kiss a lot of frogs before Sanctuary was found!

Another way the situation may be mutually beneficial.....when a survey is done, the person that pays for it owns it. We ended up selling our survey on a boat we passed on, to the eventual buyer of the boat. Saved him a good deal of time and money, and we got back some of the cost of the survey.

What timing! I just finished working up an initial offer on the boat you are discussing and was planning on having our broker present it on Monday...

Hi George,

Is this Jamie's boat in Prospect? I went up there a few weeks ago boat shopping and did an about turn. It is dolled up but not a creampuff. He got her in trade, and isn't exactly a "motivated seller", just needs some extra cash to build the house. He isn't hooked into the used Hatt market, knowing what to expect by trusting her former optimistic trade-in value. Now your offer means how nice a house he builds, so don't expect a "let's get rid of this now attitude" but a hardnose no-nonsense serious offers only, close to asking price, from a husky 6'6 mariner.

Good luck with that lowball, at worst it will work as meat tenderizer for the next buyer. ;)

The engine rooms don't look at all well-cared-for. The hoses running all over the place from the A/C units show a definite lack of concern for proper operation and maintanance. If they look that way, what do other, less visible and hard to get to items look like?

The engines strike me the same way - paint in places where it shouldn't be and no paint in places where it should be.

This doesn't mean that the engs aren't perfectly OK but it gives me a bad impression about overall care of the boat.

I am with Mike, I hate to see people cutting corners on stuff. Makes you wonder where else they cut corners.

For example before we bought a vintage hatteras , we were hot on the trail of a mid 1990's Tiara 3100. We looked a few with gas engines and then one with Volvo diesels. These are excellent boats and very expensive new and used. Well the one with volvo diesels had a rusted bread wraper around the windshield wiper washer hoses, had a rope with a knot in it for a deck lid pull. etc etc. infact this boat was the worst example of a Tiara we saw.

now conversely we saw another one with 454's that was stored out of the water and in a shed its whole life. the boat was only used once a year but the owner was a freak about the thing. I thought the photos that the broker took were BS because the thing looked too nice. In this case the thing looked better in person than in the photos. Everything was perfect and every thing looked new. pulled out drawers and there were spare parts neatly lined up and labled. all aftermarket stuff on the boat was done neatly, even the stereo system was perfect. you opened inspection panels and the amp was mounted nice and square, all wires were mounted with right angles and evely spaced. in fact you opened any inspection panel anywhere and it was the same, perfectly clean and neat. Biggest mistake we made was not buying that boat. It was priced far less than any other on the market at that time.

Jewels like this are out there, just look at the 53 Mikes friend got and what a price.

OH MY GOD. A lowly yacht broker has used actual photographs? Recent photographs? and has represented the boat honestly and fairly? WHO IS THIS TRAITOR? I want names! Heads will roll! :D

Now now. We established in an earlier thread that SOME brokers have integrity. I think I can count them on one hand :D

I have been talking about putting my boat on the market by end of year and my old broker bought the brokerage he worked at and is really busy I always expresed interest in the field because I like Real-Estate so much. And I love boats way too much. :D So when I told him the info he said why don't I get my license and help him out part time and save some by doing my own listing as my first deal ??? Is this a bad idea or should I go with it??

Carl,
I am a commercial real estate broker and have had the same thoughts as you. How about we work something out...you get your license, I buy your boat (pennies on the dollar of course! :D ) and your first sale is very quick and easy. Then you tell all your other clients that you have a 100% success rate for your listings and an almost unheard of time frame for closed deals.

:D

GUZMAN-- Buy the trawler!! Buy the trawler!! We can make Randy a deal on both the hatts and the its Vamos a la chingata por HABANA !!! ws

ROFLOL :D

Here's how may add would read.........

1989 Hatteras 67' CPMY. This boat is perfect! It has new rebuilds in January 06 ,and has had its electronics all upgraded. (Expensive) It's been Capt. maintained and in pristine condition I use it as a cruiser never over 1200rpm . I'm selling it because it was purchased without proper consent of a loving wife. Apparently "do whatever the f**k you want" doesn't mean what I thought. Call me, Carl. (239)641-0808

Sorry for the delay in responding to this Bubbamigo, I just now got back from the bathroom after pissin' my pants!! LMFAO!!! :D

I heard the same thing from my wife in our nightly bitchfest about how I buy big ticket items without discussing it with her. I guess we just have a difference in opinion on the qualifications of big ticket items!

Like I've always said, when women think you have them figured out, they get scared and change the rules again!!!

Boy, this thread sure goes to show there is a lot of interpretation as to what is technical! :D I would have been zapped or relocated for sure if I had started this one, but you guys have already taken if so far off course, you'll have to do a manual correction on the AP!!! :D

Just got off the phone with SwissHatt who made a rather interesting suggestion. GuzBoy, go out and find yourself some natural sixes and make a trawler out of the GuzCruzer. Sell me your 12V71TI's cause I like to go fast and mine is blown up. PROBLEMS SOLVED!!!

Sorry there YottsmanWillie, didn't mean to leave you out of the deal! :D
Hey, why would I want to hurry down to Cuba to eat a chingata?

No, apparently not

LOL You guys started it! :D

Hey Rick, you forgot to push the smiley button. You ain't pissed at me too are you? YOU AIN'T UGLY ARE YA? :D

We still going fishing one day?

For the record, I thanked Doug for my new home and suggested he zap anybody who posts a technical question there!!!

Carl, what do you want for the boat? Maybe I can keep it in the family. I asked before Randy this time, but you have to get the table back or no deal. Also, what ever you do never call your wife the Admiral, because she will think she can pass judgement on whatever the lowly "Captain" does. I gave mine the illustrious title of "Galley Slave" and sometimes "Boat Wench". A good Captain has to keep constant vigil for potential mutiny. :D

That was good advise Chris I'll have to inplement some new rules ..As far as the price it depends who you ask the Captain or the Boat Wench  It was listed for 699k when I purchased her and I got the engines rebuilt and ended up mid 5's I'm not looking to make any money but would like to get some for the elctronics  my broker is sending me the paper work to become a broker and I'll probubly have her listed by mid November ? I will be looking at trades under 200k Yachtfish or sportfish...
