Well, I couldn't let Mario look like the only Hatt guy who had fun on a Hatt today.
Ryan and I went to the marina to have the head on "Nancy Cay" pumped. Not sure what the problem was, but everything checked out okay after a flush job and re-pump.
We left Caney Creek after topping off the tanks with $2.50 mid-grade unleaded and headed downstream to Blue Springs Marina for a cheeseburger at Ryan's request. It sure is fun just doing the guy thing with him. As always, he had to drive "Daddy's big boat". Given the distance from Caney Creek to Blue Springs, I figure the burgers we had cost about $75 or so, but the time we spent together was priceless as always.
Upon docking at the marina and entering the restaurant there, I noticed a couple who walked in and sat down at the table beside me and Ryan. They sure did look familiar, and it turns out they were. After exchanging glances, the guy looked at me and said "Randy?". Sure enough, turns out he was the guy I sold my little Allison 15' speed boat to a couple of months ago.
He and his wife spent a good deal of time with me in my office the day they came to pick up the boat. We traded stories and they told me that "Jim" would be blind within the next year. That little Allison had been a childhood dream of his, and I suppose he wanted to "see" that dream become reality. He and his wife are wonderful people, and Jim told me he would like to keep track of me. I told him that I too would like to keep up with him. Funny thing, he had called me last week-end and we just shot the bull for an hour or so on the phone.
I invited him and his wife to join us, which they did. We talked about lifes joys and sorrows, and then I invited them aboard my 41 for a little country cruise. I had to laugh when I found out they were the couple in a jon boat who had been surfing my wake on the way down the river!
We headed upstream to a subdivision near Thief Neck Island where some unscrupulous Southern boys took advantage of some geographically challenged lake lot lookers who bought lots sight unseen. Those things are straight up and down, and a couple have driveways which would rival the best snow ski longjump ramp known to man. One even has a brick catch wall for rainy days! Jim commented that he remembered when TVA offered to sell Thief Neck Island for $15k many years ago. That island is well over 1,000 acres and is absolutely beautiful with sloping hills and rock bluffs along with nice level spots and many coves for hooking it.
We had a nice cruise and Ryan entertained us, as always. He's quite the little entertainer. Upon returning them to the dock at Blue Springs, I told Jim he had to contact me as soon as he finished the restoration of that little Allison as it was his turn to take me for the next boat ride on the boat of his dreams.
