Coring.....

I know some parts of the 1510's are cored.....

Deck, forward top, main cabin top/FB deck and probably all of the cabin sides?

Is this correct, and is ANY of the hull cored? I know the bottom isn't, but do the topsides turn cored anywhere below the deck?

So far I haven't heard a whole lot of complaints about water intrusion and delamination, except for when helm chairs are improperly installed on the FB.

Are there any other areas where there has been instances of delamination?

No delamination, but water intrusion in area under anchor windlass due to improper installation.

Hull sides are solid glass

Th problem isn't the use of balsa core, it s that over the years owners and yard workers have drilled thru to install anything from windlasses, foot switches, davits, antennas, etc...

Hatteras share some of the blame as they drilled 200+ holes to secure the flybridge to the roof using regular sealant...

Last week I opened the deck under the davit stand pipe to chase a leak in the master head... There was no core left. I replaced a square foot or so under the standpipe with divinicel, and used starboard instead of wood under the stand pipe as a mounting pad.

This was pretty much just to stop th leak but I still have to repair major core rot. It's not a huge deal but I just wished they woudl have done a better job, I actually had a bow cleat which is starting to pull out. I guess back in1970 cored deck were fairly new and they didn't guess it would eventually rot
