  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
61' MOTOR YACHT (1980 - 1985)
The last three antifoulings in Sydney Harbour have been disastrous with the whizz bang recommended antifouls lasting only 9 months before succuming to barnacles. Everyone in Sydney is in the same boat, so to speak. The available antifoul is simply not effective. I cannot use the boat as I wish to.

I've decided to bite the bullet and will have CopperCoat applied to the hull. The cost will be three times that of regular antifouling. Expected lifespan of CopperCoat will be greater than 10 years. Boat will still be slipped for maintenance and insurance purposes.

I have poured over the Youtubes, forums and reviews. CopperCoat disaster stories abound, but they only relate to incorrectly applied CopperCoat. We have chosen the boat yard carefully and they have experience with the product. It will be a huge project with oversight and well documented. We haul out on June 16.

The steps will be:

- Diver to remove as many barnacles as possible prior to soda blasting.
- Soda blast the hull to existing epoxy barrier coat applied in 2007.
- 2 coats of new barrier coat if needed.
- Remove existing Propspeed from shafts, props and rudders and prepare with primer.
- Spray 5 coats of CopperCoat on each side of hull in one session. Wet on tacky.
- Burnish the dried CopperCoat to activate it.

I've not seen anyone do this before on the forum so it should make an interesting story. What could possibly go wrong? :)

Take pictures. Love to see how it goes.
