Cleaning up the dink

Well, I broke down and decided to clean up and paint the dinghy. As with all paint jobs, the real work is all prep related. This one wasn't any different. The biggest challenges were removing all the mildew and degreasing the tubes. The "Foolin' Around" decals on the tubes were a royal pain in the butt to remove. Heat gun, razor blade and a million little pieces later, it all came off. You can see it still visible after one coat. Hopefully it won't take more than three to cover it.

First coats are on the exterior (two coats of gray). Second coats of white and third coat of gray tomorrow. Looks VERY good, considering that we brushed it on. A few small faint brush strokes - but not very visible.

I went with MDR Inflatble Boat Paint Top Coating.
It's gone on pretty easily, although I tried a very fine foam roller that would continually bubble the paint.
Ended up brushing with good results.

Funny you posted this.Bren and I took ours apart and scrubbed it down yesterday.Came out pretty nice.We used Go Jo with Pumice and Mister Clean Majic pads.

We used 303 cleaner and the same Magic Eraser's to clean it up prior to painting. Took a lot of oxidation and paint residue off during that process.

Next coats are going in now. I'll post more pictures later today.
