Cleaning Soot and Intercooler

671TIs--The V clamp between the turbo and exhaust broke resulting in some soot in my ER. Questions:
What have you guys found best to clean the soot up with?
Should I use Silkolene on this joint when repairing?
My blankets are 23 year old, but still look ok, should I replace or reuse?
What should I look for in the intercooler to see how far the soot may have progressed? and finally
Is there a standard cleaning procedure for the intercooler?

Yes, use Silkolene on the new joint. To clean up the soot, go to Homeless Depot and look in the fireplace dept. They will have a spray that is used to clean the soot off of glass fireplace doors. Just spray it on and wipe it off. It works great.

If the blankets look okay and don't have any oil on them, then I would clean them and reuse.

Went to Homeless Depot, no such product according to gal in fireplace department. Can you recall the name? Will also try Lowes and local ACO.

Anyone have any tips on intercooler cleaning and what to look for?

Why not just use mineral spirts (paint thinner)? I use it all the time It leaves no residue.
