Cleaniedini 65C Restoration Project

The bank put the boat on Yatch World for $850,000. Search Hatteras 65' 1982. I saw the boat Oct 2007 when Cleanei first started working on her. The HOF judges would not be happy with the re-fit.

That's too bad. I hate to see refit attempts that just make things worse.

What is this wood trim they used that doesn't even match? Com'mon, if you're going to do it, do it right.

The bank probably said get it done as fast and as cheap as possible and well pay you.... then didnt

When I saw the boat it was pretty well gutted. I'm not sure Dave Stahl has his dates right; maybe October of 2008?, because we saw it in late June 08 and there wasn't a lot of refitting done yet that I recall; mostly demo, some core repair and some ER cleanup.

The bank should never done that deal, and I think finally realized it. Dini and his brother Harrison were/are two great kids, and fairly talented, but it sounded like the bankers were micro-managing things a bit. I met the bankers for a few minutes and was not very impressed. All in all a recipe for disaster. Hopefully the boys learned something and moved on, they were pretty tense.

I may very well be off a year. It was around the time you were looking at Hatts. My buddy and I went over to see her and offered the Bank $350K. They said don;t even bother typing up the offer. Last year this same friend was up north in his LRC and met the same banker again who did not remember him. He said they had some low ball offers a few years ago and that the bank should have taken it. Now they need to get $700K+ to break even. My friend did not remind him it was he who made the low offer, it would not have done anyone any good.

Really a shame.

I have not seen the boat since '07 when it was still being gutted. (See my pics on page 1 of this thread) The lads had the energy & passion, were calling in pros when needed and had a banker willing to see it through (or so we thought).

Now the whole project is destined for failure.

There are lessons for everyone here.
