Hatteras Model
40' DOUBLE CABIN-Series I (1986 - 1989)
Need a set of chocks to be put on the foredeck or I am going to have to make them up from plywood and fiberglass...

if you want sticker "chocks", you can get fancy alum. ones...

I did two sets with white starboard... one for the tender on my boat (either the 13' fiberglass or the 12' catboat), as well as a set for the jetski on the boat i run. The jet ski isnt' light and in a good chop at 20+ kts the chocks are holding very well despite claims that starboard isnt' structural.

very simple... i used 3/4" starboard. the base is 24x48 and the chocks are 6"x48. I cut two square holes in the middle of the base from which I cut the triangular braces. there are 3 braces on the inside and 3 on the outside of each, they are simply screwed in. screws hold very well in starboard.

took me a couple of hours and $100 worth of starboard. no painting, no rotting... maintenance free. starboard is easy to cut with a jigsaw.

I have a set of old wood chocks that came off Cpt. Willie's boat. There was a Whaler on it, but don't know what size. I bought them thinking I could use them to mount my 13' Whaler Sport, but apparently the traditional Whaler bottom is configured differently from the Sport model. I had to buy new ones from UMT. You are welcome to the ones I have for the cost of shipping, about $35. Let me know if you want them.

Pascal,

Does your rig include an outboard? I love your idea but am concerned about the structure holding the weight of a 25 HP Honda. Also, how did you attach it to the flybridge and how did you account for the curvature of the deck? Please post more pics.

the one shown in the picture is holding a 2008 Yamaha Waverunner (4 stroke)... those aren't lightweight, i think they're about 800lbs and as mentioned it on a boat that i run offshore and sometimes up to 23kts. lots of loads! the deck is flat so no issue, it is not directly secured to the deck to be easily stored when the Jet Ski is launched so we can pull reclining chairs. The PWC is obvioulsy strapped down to folding eyes. when running offshore the craddle is tied to existing eyes so that it doesn't shift from under the jetski

the one on my boat is currently holding the cat boat which is fairly light but it used to hold my hober, a 13' HEAVILY built hard hull tender with a 40hp evinrude, battery, fuel, etc.. that's about 1000lbs. I put some starboard spacers between the deck and the base board to make up for the curve. It is secured thru the deck with backing plated underneath.

Here is a picture of the hatch the whaler is going over. I need to make the chocks go up a bit so as to make the hatch a true escape hatch... Or can i bottom paint the whaler? Or both?
