  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
Asking a little help on wanting to change out my Davit winch to accommodate a 13' Whaler. First off, I do not know actual davit limit lb wise. Has anyone got knowledge of davit in picture below ( No plate info on davit)?
Secondly, If knowing this davit can support up to 1000lb (whaler + engine and fuel/gear come in around 650lbs), I was looking at this winch online, [h=3]Superwinch 110 V AC Electric Winch - 1000lb Cap, #SAC1000[/h]I would like to use this set up as my tender/ creek fisher when traveling!
Current winch has 350 lb limit.
Any input?
Thanks

I'd not be comfortable with that davit and 1000 lb load. It doesn't look like it's rated for that. Look for the manufacturer label or information.

Yeah I was hoping someone knew max lift on davit since this was apparently installed when boat came out. At least that's what I see on similar early 70's 53MY years. It has pole support going down to the main deck. Unfortunately I'm at work in Louisiana until mid-dec so won't get a better look for info (no beer until then either!). Just taking a pop shot to see if anyone knows!

Thanks!

Kelpy,
Thanks. This appears to be the company. I will contact them to seek whether is a 700# or 1000#. On their site link, the 300# & 500# do not show the support tubing on it. Also from pics, it appears my support is longer which is another ? I'll get an answer to. Hope this will do it as then I will only have to change out winch.

Boatsb, always appreciate input. I'll let you'll know if it works out (for the positive!).

Check the standpipe diameter.

I don't think it is a Nick Jackson. I had what looks like the exact same thing and went through the very same process and I spoke to them. I got a 13' Rigid Boat which weighs about the same as your Whaler. I lifted it off the water with that davit and it bent way more than I was gonna be comfortable with. Since I could never find what the exact rating was I had a new 1000 pounder made. It wasn't worth guessing.

I decided to go with a new Nick Jackson, 1000# capacity with power lift and swing. My old pipe-welders with 1200# Golo winch is still available if any one is interested...

Here is a sample photo of the new one. Does anyone else have a Nick Jackson set-up? For same capacity it was $14K vs $28K for Marquipt (not counting labor).

Holy COW, I am in the wrong business. I could make them!

I know, it seems insane. Marquipt Tenderlift 1000 (with hydraulic swivel), $28K plus $4K estimate for install. Made the Nick Jackson look like a bargain, but still in "ouch" territory.

Entonces i have a 13' Boston Whaler with a 40 HP with all the gear and 2 - 6 gallon fuel tanks and am telling you i WOULD NOT want to use that davit to lift my Whaler ...the davit i have ...i don't know the brand it is... is just about at its limit i too am looking to change my davit to one that twists by itself its not easy trying to pull the Whaler to the saddle...
