Hatteras Model
45' CONVERTIBLE-Series II (1984 - 1992)
I have a friend who is interested in a 1967 41 Sport Fish Hatteras, it is powered with 3126 Cats with airseps. Can anyone shed some light on vessel and power Thanks Tom Gina Marie

It has been my observation that avoidance of 3126's would be advisable. They had a casting problem with those engines that created a "soft block" issue. Really not good. Any other experience out there?

I wouldn't own 'em.

Many of them are ok. But some are not, and if you get a "not" one you're in a world of hurt once out of warranty, which these almost certainly are.

Perhaps suggest to your friend to take a look at "Grumpy" a 1969 41' Conv located in Stuart Fl. powered with 3208 Cat 375's (450 hours) priced at $99,500.

41 sport fish

There's one just down the dock from me with 8v-53's for an optimistic $69,000. I've been out fishing on her. She's noisy and slow.

I have a 1966 41C with 450 cummins, she runsgreat, crus @ 24 with 175hrs. I looked at 3126's, but heard they had some issued. these cummins are great.

Thank you for the comments we will keep looking.

If the 3126's have been properly updated and are not the French blocks, then they should be fine. The French blocks are the soft blocks and can't be fixed.A Cat dealer can tell you how to spot them, I believe the serial #starts with or contains an "F". They also need to have the turbos and valves updated (big $)among others.

I would check to see if this boat has the French-cast blocks. If NOT, you could go ahead with an engine survey if you like the boat. However, if there is an equally good boat with a different set of engines, I would give it preference. Not all 3126s are bad, but enough were to give them a bad rep. You would definitely want to know which ones they were.

Me and the boss are planning on going to New York to look at a 40' El Dorado which has twin 3126B in it. 2005 model. With all the bad said about Cats do we need to worry about the newer Cat 3126B? Also, what does the "B" stand for. Noticed ther is a 3126 and a 3126B. What is the difference? Thanks in Advance,
captbuddy
