Hatteras Model
37' CONVERTIBLE (1977 - 1982)
Last season I replaced the seals on my sea strainer on the port side. It came in a kit form and was about 30 bucks. I only really needed the seal for the strainer cover. The other strainer seal is getting thin on the cover. Has anybody ever tried making a seal with gasket paper. I do not mind buying the complete kit but it seems a waste for one gasket.
Thanks Jim

Use the thick paper, or find an old rubber inner tube at you local truck stop.

I made all of my strainer gaskets out of thin red rubber stock. You can get it at any hardware store in a sheet. Just cut them out to fit. Works great.

If you have Perko strainers you can order the top gasket only. You can pone Perko or just post your strainer model number and I'll get the part number and post it They are only a few dollars each and last for years. Save the remais of the gasket kit you have for a spare.

If they are Perko 493's, the number is 0493DP599N, you get 2 gaskets.

Synthetic gasket material is the way to go...impervious to water seepage...
