It must be broken window day, my port side front windshield has cracked, can this just be removed without taking out the whole window frame? From reading other post this looked to be laminated glass. Have others gotten a glass company to replace this type of window?

thanks!

Good thing you posted... Frame has nothing to do with the glass. The glass is glued in place, probably with butyl rubber, but it could be sikaflex. The rubber trim makes it all look neat, but you are in for a real PITA. Having replace a panel on mine not too long ago, pull the rubber trim off, and order new from Sams. They may also have the 1/4 inch round butyl cording. Order a few tubes of black Sikaflex. Break out the old glass.. Yeh, I know, you wanted to use it for a pattern..fugeedaboutit! Use one of those miracle oscillating tools harbor freight to clean out the channel...plan on a whole day for that... I forget the exact name for the laminated glass, but it's a common ppg product, I think is called solex green.. There is a good thread in frequently asked questions about putting the new glass in....I feel your pain!

I recently replaced three windows-this is a very doable job if the first thing you do is go to TIPS AND TRICKS/window installation and then talk to SAMs. Understanding the anatomy of the joint and their instruction are very helpful.

After removing the molding I sliced the 1/4" of calking between the glass and frame with a razor blade knife and was able to coax the glass out using two window clamps which I got at Harbour freight -they were inexpensive and make setting the glass easy. My boat (1972 53MY) has a 3/8" neoprene (?) tape between the glass and the frame which gave easily. This allowed me to make a template out of poster board although I could have used the glass itself. Getting the caulking out of the channel is definitely a PITA. my first window took 6 hours, the others 4 hours.

Good luck
