How much effort does it really take to go out and raise the US flag or lower the McD flag? I'm sure it takes just about as much effort as it does to wipe off the tables and you see how well they do that. Pure laziness, the new American way.

who eats there anyway...

Exactly Pascal!!!

I started boycotting them about 40 years ago when I figured out they made crappy hamburgers! :)

I can't see the video because I'm in Istanbul and UTube is forbidden here - if I try to pull it up some sort of message in turkish pops up with an english translation stating it is a protection measure. So I don't know what the video actually shows.

However, as usual, lack of knowledge of the specifics will not prevent me from commenting! ;)

Nearly noplace, except government offices, fly the flag properly. I've gone into several establishments with a US flag flying day and night (improper unless it is lighted at night) that was so tattered and torn it looked more like red and white streamers than a flag. When I've politely suggested they get a new flag or just quit flying it I got responses from "Aren't you an American?" (didn't understand that one at all) to "You want to buy us a new one?"

Ok, guys...this is not about who eats their. Its about Patriotsm!!! All we ever do is get sweet teas from there. NOT ANYMORE. I refuse to put one foot on the property.
It offends me that this can happen by a large corporation and all I get out of it is that each store is a franchise and Mcdonalds is passing this on to the store owner.
Also, this is not laziness, this is ignorance.... I have also contacted the American Legion and the CFA(Citizens flag alliance). I am on a rampage about this.
I remember my husband talking about coming home from Viet Nam in the middle of the night and still having protesters greet them on the runway. Mike P did you have this problem also? Any other vets?
I feel that McDonalds is responsible for what the franchises do, and as such should take whatever corrective action is needed.
Please pass this on to everyone you know...dont stop for coffee, tea or breakfast sandwhich. BOYCOTT McDonalds. Thank you, ppat

Oh, it is about laziness. They may also be ignorant, but most of those workers are just plain lazy. If they had any more ambition, they wouldn't be working at McDonalds. You know the attitude: It's not my job to tend to the flag, I'm on frys.

He'd propably lose his job if he left the fryer and went outside to raise the flag.

Fortunately, I was never on the direct receiving end of any of it in 1968 (came back in Sep). But that was most likely because I came back to the states on a med-evac C141 so I was only at military airports coming home. The second time, when I came back in Aug '71 on commercial air, I saw nothing that time either but there was much less protesting by then because Nixon had announced the US was leaving Vietnam. College students (some of whom were friends of mine from the University of Texas), who compromised the vast majority of the protestors, knew that being drafted/put in the infantry/sent to Vietnam was much less of a threat than it had been in '66-'70.

I never understood why adults would want to eat at McDonalds until my son came along. They definitely cater to kids with the playgrounds, most of which are inside. Add to that the prizes in a Happy Meal, and you've got dear old Dad eating a double quarter pounder with cheese and expanding his waistline while watching his kid have a great time. Actually, their Egg McMuffin's are pretty tasty and only have about 350 calories.

As for the flag flap, looks to me like they're saying company first, country second. Unfortunately it would seem many businesses fly a flag as a sales gimmick to make their customers think they are patriotic and trustworthy. Sometimes neither is the case. Funny how some of the local car dealerships fly the largest flags. It's advertising, not patriotism.

I hate to wade into a quagmire but as a car dealer who flies a 20' X 35' American flag every day and takes correct flag etiquette very seriously I have to wonder why you would assume I do it simply as advertising. I do it because it honors our country and that makes me feel good. I have received multiple compliments on it over the years and think the community enjoys it.

True it becomes something of a local land mark, but at $2,000 a year in flags it is really not effective advertising. On top of that there is always the person I alienate who for some reason assumes my flying the flag is a bad thing.

Being a car dealer does not automatically make me a bad guy or everything I do evil.

I am as patriotic as anyone.

End of Rant.

No offense there MT as my statement was certainly not implying that every business that flies a big flag is doing it for the wrong reasons. I applaud your patriotism, but you know as well as I do that some would fly the flag just to get those compliments (and business) from those in their community.

It sort of goes along with some who mentions their Christianity in advertising their business if you know what I mean.

The flag flying at my office is getting a little tattered due to the wind storms we've had here in N.C. and needs to be replaced. I've contemplated leaving it up tattered and all until we replace the congress and president as I believe it makes a statement as to the state of our country right now! Also considered taking it down and just flying the "Don't tread on me" flag in it's place. Now, before y'all get your undies in an uproar, read the above! I said contemplated and considered!

I saw the video and have a few questions - was there some reason why the American flag was being flown at half mast? Was there a death of someone local who was important to that city? I notice that that happens a lot in Miami at the courthouse and I often wonder who died since there was no national event that triggered the "national" morning symbol, and find that it's usually for a local person of some importance or something that happened in Cuba.

I also noticed that the American flag pole was taller than the McDonald's pole which leads me to believe they intended for the American flag to be higher. When there is some tragedy that calls for flying the American flag as half mast, what is the proper thing to do with other flags around it such as the McDonald's flag? Do those get lowered too, or taken down entirely so that no flag is flying higher than the American flag?

Angela, first off... there was NO POLITICAL reason for the flag to be flown at half-staff.
Secondly... the American flag SHOULD NEVER be lower than any other flag.

Check out this website on proper flying of the American flag. It comes from the American Legion which is our retired armed forces. Ppat

WOW!!! Thank s guys... you don't know how much this means to me.
Ever since my husband's funeral I have wondered as to the meaning of each fold. The Army's representative read it as the flag was being folded but I've never been able to find it until now. I thought you'd like to read it also....ppat

Flag Folding Ceremony
The flag folding ceremony represents the same religious principles on which our country was originally founded. The portion of the flag denoting honor is the canton of blue containing the stars representing the states our veterans served in uniform. The canton field of blue dresses from left to right and is inverted when draped as a pall on a casket of a veteran who has served our country in uniform.

In the Armed Forces of the United States, at the ceremony of retreat the flag is lowered, folded in a triangle fold and kept under watch throughout the night as a tribute to our nation's honored dead. The next morning it is brought out and, at the ceremony of reveille, run aloft as a symbol of our belief in the resurrection of the body.

(Wait for the Honor Guard or Flag Detail to unravel and fold the flag into a quarter fold--resume reading when Honor Guard is standing ready.)

The first fold of our flag is a symbol of life.
The second fold is a symbol of our belief in the eternal life.
The third fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veteran departing our ranks who gave a portion of life for the defense of our country to attain a peace throughout the world.
The fourth fold represents our weaker nature, for as American citizens trusting in God, it is to Him we turn in times of peace as well as in times of war for His divine guidance.
The fifth fold is a tribute to our country, for in the words of Stephen Decatur, "Our country, in dealing with other countries, may she always be right; but it is still our country, right or wrong."
The sixth fold is for where our hearts lie. It is with our heart that we pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
The seventh fold is a tribute to our Armed Forces, for it is through the Armed Forces that we protect our country and our flag against all her enemies, whether they be found within or without the boundaries of our republic.
The eighth fold is a tribute to the one who entered in to the valley of the shadow of death, that we might see the light of day, and to honor mother, for whom it flies on Mother's Day.
The ninth fold is a tribute to womanhood; for it has been through their faith, love, loyalty and devotion that the character of the men and women who have made this country great have been molded.
The tenth fold is a tribute to father, for he, too, has given his sons and daughters for the defense of our country since they were first born.
The eleventh fold, in the eyes of a Hebrew citizen, represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon, and glorifies, in their eyes, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
The twelfth fold, in the eyes of a Christian citizen, represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies, in their eyes, God the Father, the Son, and Holy Ghost.
When the flag is completely folded, the stars are uppermost, reminding us of our national motto, "In God we Trust."

(Wait for the Honor Guard or Flag Detail to inspect the flag--after the inspection, resume reading.)

After the flag is completely folded and tucked in, it takes on the appearance of a cocked hat, ever reminding us of the soldiers who served under General George Washington and the sailors and marines who served under Captain John Paul Jones who were followed by their comrades and shipmates in the Armed Forces of the United States, preserving for us the rights, privileges, and

Nah man, you can't do that. The Big McBama burger is coming out next week. It promises to have 3 times the beef with one third the calories of a Big Mac. It's part of the new health care plan.

Hey Bird I bet that new burger is 0% fat and all "BULL".

remember most Mcdeath patrons don't think about healthcare.
