I would be interested to hear about the windows on the sides of the aft deck on Skooch. They look more square and not angular like most Hatts of that vintage. Were they replaced?

Sky I do not know the origins of the square aft deck windows. The PO did not put them in. The aft deck windows were aftermarkeon almost all the 58s. Mariah (for sale down in Jscksonville) claims to have a factory enclosed aft deck and it looks like it too. Masterplan has an enclosed aft deck by Bluewater Yachts in Hamptom. The boats came with open aft decks.
It has crossed my mind to change the windows out, but there are so many other things to do first. The admiral leans toward an open arrangment.

Here we go.

Pulpit is ready for the Jarrett Bay guys to remove. Only two 3/4 bolts left to get out and cut the thing off. New pulpit is in stock and I pick up the windless at West Marine tomorrow.

Old huge 32v windless with 1/2 inch gypsy will be for sale on HatterasLRC.com then this site then ebay for $750 or 10% of the price of a new one (plus shipping)

Dave, we are still here in Morehead. There have been some big changes at Jarrett Bay in the past week or so according to Roger W. Be very careful there and supervise them closely; that has always been the case with those guys but more so now with the turmoil. Who is your project manager? To the extent the same crew on the bottom job side of the business is still there, they should do a very good job for you on that at least. After the bottom job, you might consider having the boat moved over to True World or Bock and having Bruce Morrison do the pulpit. I have to admit I am still scratching my head a bit as to why you came all the way down here given all the good yards up your way.

Personally if I was getting the boat painted in this general area I would look to one of the Wanchese yards like Bayliss or Spencer, or Atlantic Yacht Basin in Great Bridge. Otherwise I'd take it down to Thunderbolt in GA, a fantastic yard who as I learned first hand stands behind their work above and beyond expectations.

Given the choice between a factory refurbished Ideal and a new Maxwell, I'd take the Ideal every time. It will be as new and the customer service is superb.

George,

Am I reading more into your vague put downs at every chance on Jarrett Bay, than I should? You never get specific, and that bothers me more than anything. If you have a problem with them, that goes beyond personal, and thus you believe is appropiate for this audience, how about some facts to let us make our own judgement. All I can assume is sometime in the past something happened between you and Jarrett Bay and you just can not get past it, nor are you willing to explain this passion.

In the interest of full disclosure, I have been a very satisfied customer of Jarrett Bay for the past 10 years and have nothing but good experiences to report. From a full paint job, to bow thruster installation, to a bottom blister job, all done right with full responsiveness to exact details from me on some elements.
