Well the window installation is going well and we feel like we are close enough to now show a few pics.

The center window on the pilot house is a tilt-out .

Hey Paul--
Those are some magnificent looking windows! Did BOSS LADY have windows forward on the deck house originally? I really miss being able to look out forward when underway or just to let light in for that matter. NICE!!!!! If you notice, the only windows that open are the two on the wheelhouse sides. Air conditioning is good, but fresh air is sometimes better!! ws

Hey Bill,

When Boss lady came to town, the original widows in the forward salon had been removed and the panels glassed in. We decided to "open" up the boat and cut out for these new windows.

Wow what a difference this made ! :D

The wheelhouse will have sliders on the sides , and along with the forward center tilt out, should offer plenty of breeze on the warm days.

WOWZER is all I can say !!! They look GREAT !!!!

thanx rick,

just wait till you see this in person . :D

Sharp look! Other than safety from operating in high seas, I cannot fathom why anyone would glass in salon windows. I love my open salon.

Starman,
Who supplied the windows? They look great. Are they 5200'd on or do they use an internal trim ring setup?

Great looking windows and frames. I don't even want to know the cost..I would break into tears.....

How irregular did you find the original cutouts? When I removed the port salon window/frame on my YF due to a slight drip, I found the cutout was likely made after a lunch with a lot of beer...some screws from the frame were in caulk, nothing else due to irregularities in the cut...really rough and wavy....I had expected something better from Hatteras...

Spectacular windows and beautiful job coming along on Boss Lady.

Mark,

I can get the windows for anyone who wants them. They are built "off shore" . I am set up as a dealer for these windows.

I did use 5200. Except for the stb side center salon window. Which I intend to use a caulk more suitable for window removal. This YF does not have a large companionway door.

So this window will be removable for that " just in case" issue .

I am going to trim the interior with teak.

Hey REB,

Actually these 316 Stainles Steel windows sell for about the same price, maybe a bit lower, than the aluminum style windows. The difference being they are made off shore where labor is literally a few cents an hour. But the work quality is top notch.

There is a time difference also. From the time the patterns and CAD drawings are approved to delivery can take 90-120 days.

This is the "penalty" if you will, for top quality at very low prices.

The cut outs were tricky to say the least, and some are not as pretty as I would prefer. But, they will never be seen after the permanent teak trim ring is installed.

Honestly, these first windows have been a learning experience for us and we have it down to a science now. Each window is going in easier than the one before.

Nice looking, and a very nice looking install as well. Would you PM me? I am curious as to what these would cost for the front triple windshield on a 36C...everyone else is filling theirs in, but I like the light and the inside helm. The occasional leaks, however, I could do without.

These same windows can be made with round corners, and there is also an aluminum version.

I have some samples and will get some pics so if anyone is intersted, I can send them to you.

Paul, can stainless sliding windows be made with a large curve like this?

Paul-- did you panel below the windows with 1/2"? The reason I ask is mine is 1/4" and needs R&R. ws

Bill,

I did this somewhat different. Instead of a seperate section of ply on a cleated framework below the window, I installed 3/4 teak ply from the salon ceiling down to the floor.

Incredibly more solid this way.

Most hatts did use only 1/4 ply , which I refer to as a thick veneer. You can apply veneer over what you have. 1/8 or even the 10-20 mil paper back will do just fine. Buy the spray adhesive glue ( I think lowes sells it , made by 3m )
