Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
I have decided to drink the Koolaid from the Boeshield T-9 slicks. So I have begin using anywhere to stop/delay rust. Supposedly developed by Boeing for aircraft and frames and seeps in everywhere. A different product than WD-40. I buy it at WestMarine ($17 per...ouch) or Woodcraft who give it rave reviews.

My first usage has been not only on the boat, but on a Mercedes SL I bought my wife (her name is on the registration), that I want to keep in a corrosion free state, as much as possible. First results after drive in rain seems to bear out the products claims.

So if anyone has any experience or technical basis for their claims, I would be pleased to hear it.

Thanks,

I have used Boeshield T-9 on my boats for the last 15 yrs. It is great stuff. I use it for a corrosion/rust inhibitor on alot of metal and bronze surfaces. I spray the large hose clamps on the exhaust hose in the lazarette often and when I clean the rudder logs, I spray it on those as well. After spraying I wipe it lightly with a diaper to prevent runoff. It is far superior to WD-40 which I think has kerosene in the formula...Ross

I have used it on our rods and reels. It works but leaves a residue which may not be conducive to maintaining your grip on said $1500 rod/reel. I like Inox a little better

I keep a gallon bottle of Boshield T9 in our dockbox with a spray bottle in the engine room. We brought our 36 Hat from the Great Lakes in 2006. All the brass fittings and thru-hulls, strainers etc. looked like new. Thanks to Boshield they still look new. No green corrosion on anything. Maybe I should bathe with the stuff. I could stand to look like new.:)

I tried it once a few years back and didn't care for the coating that it leaves though it seemed to work well. I still have the nearly full can on the boat somewhere. CorrosionX has been my preferred chemical for such purposes for several years and it also works well for a variety of other uses.

I don't like the waxy nature of Boeshield either. I've been using Corrosion Block for the last few years.

Great replies. True enough they claim that after spray and soak in that a waxy coating of some type remains. Claim at least a 3 month life or more. They also sell a "kit" with some rust cure in a bottle, which I read and of course it contains Phosphoric Acid, in an of itself not an issue. Concept is that if Ferrous is corroded, cure the rust with rust off, then hit it with the T-9.

I helped a Buick Park Ave run up to 260k miles with little rust, without much effort, so hope the T-9 will be of benefit.

P.s., for the Great Lakers, T-9 is packaged in Holland, MI.

Thanks for the replies!
