Hatteras Model
Not Currently A Hatteras Owner
I was talking to another forum member yesterday and the comment was made that although one member who is on "double secret probation" may have been a PITA in some cases, he was the catalyst for bringing people together. comradery within this forum has been much tigter since his joining up.

There are members here who have links to their own pages for other topics. Possibly those who wish to stir things up could get their own page for off topics and or stuff not compatible with the rules of this forum. This way those of us who enjoy both types of discussions dont have to suffer. Some times us "adults" need a sand box to play in.

The crazy one from the site is loud and sometimes over the top but he owns a hatteras. Actually two. He also brings out the flag and calls us all to action and gets us together. While I have not met him his on line persona is a bit over the top and he seems loud and wild but should that remove him from the site. I bet if he had $2.5M and walked into the factory they would bow down to him if that was what it took to sell the boat.

The point is we cant control who owns these beauties nor their behavior. He owns 2 hatts. He actively seeks out contact with the other owners. He adds lots of posts with little content but others come onto the board after reading his stuff. As long as he maintains a certain level of control he should be allowed to rejoin us.

PS I do look forward to the chance to meet him. He can be the one who makes the online become more in person.

Personally I view the sandbar as a litle like a corner bar. Sometimes when you can't stand it you move your stool, The nice thing here is I just don't read the post completly. But the very same person may have good info and it's a shame not to have it in the other areas as long as they can hold their liquor and behave a little. In the sand bar I suppose it's a little bit more acceptable, within reason. Just my .02 cents worth. Bill

Guys, Randy was offered use of an everything goes forum off Sam's site... more than generous if you ask me... he chose not to take this offer and instead kept on pushing the limits here to a point which Doug has explained more than clearly in another thread.

can we move on? a large number of members are fed up with this issue.

Yes, the factory bows down to anyone who can lay down enough cash to build one of their boats. Believe me, there have been some "interesting characters" to grace the presence of the factory. Dale Earndhart spent more time talking and joking with the line workers than the sales team and VP's. There have been many others who openly display a disdane for the workers and love watch people jump when they say so.

But the fact of the matter is that ANYONE can buy a Hatteras. I've been lurking in the background for the last year or so on this forum to get ideas and gain knowlege as I began my search for my boat. To be quite honest, I really wasn't interested in making contributions to the conversation because I felt the group was pretty up tight and a bit snobbish.

As I have seen the changes in the past few months and have gotten good responces to my posts, I feel more comfortable here. I think it is a good idea to have the "Sand Bar". The other forum that I post on is for Jeep Wrangler oweners. They have the same set up for tech talk and a seperate general chat area as well. This seams keep everyone happy.

I've also been lurking in the background, not saying much due to the group appearing to be quite a bit more advanced in their knowledge base, and somewhat put off when questions were asked. Folks like Jim Rosenthal always appeared to be approachable and helpful. Others just post answers that make you feel unworthy of ever asking the question to begin with.

Randy, Guz, and the others, on the other hand, made the forum seem a bit more friendly, like a bunch of good ol' boys sitting around and talking primarily about boats, with other subjects creeping in. The entertainment factor, as well as the great information, is what keeps me checking the website everyday, sometimes two or three times a day.

It was my belief that the Sandbar was created for those of us who sometimes need to decompress a little, but still enjoy talking about our second loves (my wife is my first).

As to the post copied above, yes anyone CAN own a Hatt, but not everyone choses to. It is a different, special person who sees the beauty of a well-constructed, beautifully designed, perfectly engineered old boat that we would trust our families in in the worst of conditions. The suspect that some of you have determined not worthy of this forum is one of those people, just like you and me. IMHO, its a pretty narrow minded person who can label those worthy, or unworthy, for the rest of us.

Just my .02....and yes, now I'll go back to lurking in the background.

I think there are lots of awesome people on this site. I have had many questions answered that helped me fix something that I would have had to hire someone else to fix. Unfortunatly personalities clash and it ends up on this site. I think one just needs to sit back and watch to get the feel of who is who then stay within the boundries. Moderators don't want to babysit a bunch of grown mens drivel but somehow we find it hard to remain in good taste sometimes so they watch over us. So 3 CHEERS to Hatteras, Sams, and the Moderators who put up with our sillyness. Thanks Guys...

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

As a Hatteras wannabe, and someone who has learned a great deal from this site, I echo the above comments. This Thanksgving I am thankful for Sam's providing this site and all of you who make it worthwhile to look at each day. Be safe and have a great holiday!

Once again, the voice of neutrality comes to life. I'll lighten up if you will Pascal ole' buddy.

As for the rest of you who said nice things, thanks a lot. I'll try not to dissappoint the "large number of members" who SHARE your opinions. Look for my return speech coming soon to a forum near you.

Bless your heart Capt. Erich! I have had numerous calls from members old and new who share your sentiments.

As for the "man in black", I always admired is straightforwardness and no-nonsense portrayal of his true self. I loved it when some TV reporter approached him after a horrific crash and asked "Dale, what happened?". His response, "had a wreck". Reporter, "tell us what you think caused it Dale", Earnhardt, "watch the tape". That exchanged was followed by my rolling on the floor laughing followed by Earnhardt heading into his trailer with no further comment!

A member, egaito (he doesn't like me either now I guess) pointed out an autographed Hatt shirt which I promptly bought off e-bay and wore to FLIBS. Steve at Sam's provided additional info that made it all the more precious to me. Dale had visited the factory just a few days before his fatal crash to check on his new Hatt. He signed these shirts for the "little people" at Hatteras. I can't imagine why anyone would let one of these things go, but I'm sure glad they did.

Chalk that one up to another good thing that happened to me because of this forum that would never have happened if this forum hadn't lightened up a bit. I truly just don't understand why any of this had to become and remain an isssue. I truly hope we can put an end to this bickering. I've gone over the edge a time or two, and I will try to avoid that in the future.

Hey Randy, glad you are back. Now we can work on some boating comradery. Yachtsman Willy is still looking for some help to move his sub up north. I am looking at my schedule. Are you still at Grandma's house? I have a pretty full plate, but maybe I can shake loose for a couple of days. Bring your coveralls, LOL :D

Hey Bubba, it's good to be home even if I am having to wear sneakers and tip-toe to keep the peace! You are a shining example of why I am sticking around.

As is the case with yachtsmanbill, you have definitely shown you are smarter than the average bear and have been around this forum longer than I have. I'm glad you and others surfaced and made me a better man in the "real" world. I'm glad we were finally able to meet in person at FLIBS, and as always, I enjoyed our chat last night here at Nanna's house.

I didn't mean to rock anybody's world by trying to get us all together to have fun and enjoy our boats with similar minded people. Like I've said before, boats generally bring out the best in people. Short of riding around in your pick-up truck in God's country, who the heck waves and smiles as you pass by? Some of these folks on here just don't understand what you and I and a few others have come to take for granted in coming from a Southern heritage. Too bad for them.

I'm sure 98% of all these guys are good ole' boys at heart. Just like many Southerners misunderstand folks who come down here and talk loudly, directly, and are just too dang proper for their own good! Once you take the time to get to know them, you figure out they didn't mean no harm. That's just the way they do things up north!

Like you said in one of the first threads where you and me became you and me, I may be messing up by letting these boys in on our secrets. There's enough transplants down here already!

Alright, alright, enough of this touchie-feelie stuff -- I'm starting to itch! What, did you become a chick in your exile term or somethin'?!

DIRTYbird, you just hunker down back to the business of being the BADbird and give us all the entertainment on the "Sandbar" we've come to expect and wait for. I need my tech stuff as much as the next guy, but this other forum was just wandering around aimlessly for a week (no dig intended to those of us that have been in here), but this is your sandbox and it needs some "redneck stir" to keep it interesting.

And let's hear no more about what's fair, what's not, what should be zapped, what shouldn't and I think this whole thing has a nice happy ending...the real "have your cake and it it, too" kind of story. Thus endeth the sermon.

LOL, bless me brother for I have sinned! I shall spread the word and sin no more until the next time!

Hey, I must admit, I did get tired of playing with.....uh, by myself while I was incarcerated. Like you, I think we can all get along if we just do a little give and take and remember the Golden Rule.

Liquor on beer, never fear. Beer on liquor makes you sicker.

That is the way it goes ain't it? I reckon it has to do more with the bubbles in the beer as opposed to just running low on cash and switching from GooseJuice to Bud Lite.

Look out Bubba, I'm aiming to walk (limp?) away with the Purple Helmet award come Superbowel Sunday!

BIRD,
You got me to thinkin' (that explains this headache). What's a 'GOOD OLE BOY' like you doin' drivin' sedans. You should be in a pick up. I saw both of your boats, and they're both sedans. Mine has a pick up bed. Are you really a redneck? :D

LOL, Am I a real redneck? You obviously missed the picture I posted of my red Allison 100mph plus race-boat hooked to my red '72 Chevy Blazer! I think that was on my Nancy Cay pics or Gorge Trip thread.

When I get you aboard Freebird, you'll notice the biggest piece of furniture in my upper salon is a wet bar followed by the mermaid table I bought from GuzBoy! If that doesn't convince you, head down to the lower salon and turn on the flatscreen and press play on the dvd. Larry the Cable guy will tell you the rest of the story.

You still need more convincin' or do I need to post more pitchers? By the way, I have a hot rod Roush F-150 pick-up, a hot rod Cadillac CTS-V sedan and a Screamin Eagle V-Rod. I'm a hi-tech redneck!

I would like to have a "bed" on the rear-end of ole' Freebird, but I can't find a camper shell that's 15'10" wide. It just wouldn't look right without one! I do have an image to protect you know!

Hey FWIW, this thread got zapped and then restored shortly after Steve posted it. Thanks to whoever did that! Comradery among Hatt owners is a good thing!

Another thread of similar topic got zapped for good. I happened to notice it when I checked in as a guest during the banishment. Somebody referred to me as the anchovies on a pizza. Who was the guilty party? I think I may have been slammed! Pepperoni, Italian Sausage, or even Meatball would have been more appropriate! I've actually never had anchovies on a pizza. Talk about off-topic where pizza is concerned, that's along the same line as adding pineapple!

I'll try to avoid the "extra cheese" as to keep everyone thin, healthy, and happy! Ya'll have an anchovie and pineapple pizza on me!

"Real" Italian pizza has anchovies! Something about the long coast line in Italy, I think. American pizza is overated and over done. except for New York Subway terminal pizza! We have nothing like it down here in the South.

Hell Bubba, we have to give them boys something to be proud of, even if it is little salty fish on a pizza.
