I am the one from the brokerage that gets to stay in Merritt Island while others are at the show but I will ask them if there is anything worth the trip.

Some people said I drew the short straw but I get to stay on my boat for 3 days not in a hotel. I think I won..

I did hear the show is busy and there are good sized crowds.

The slip prices for the show are $5-8K so I do not think there is many affordable boats in the brokerage area.

5 to 8 grand for a slip at the brokerage show is obscene. No wonder it's mostly mega yachts now. When the brokerage show started some years ago it was a good idea and I understand a lot of deals were made as a result. I'm sure they still make money but why would "regular" folks bother to look at yachts that cost one to ten million and much more when in reality they are interested in boats that cost in the neighborhood of most of our boats. Can anyone hear that noise at the door? It's opportunity knocking. Some young enterprising boating person (owner, broker etc) should give some thought to having a brokerage show for average folks like us. Perhaps even at the same time as the Miami show, but have it somewhere else, perhaps Ft Lauderdale. Of course it would need critical mass to be successful (several hundred boats) and some booths representing various restoration services. Kaye Pearson started the Brokerage show with a dream and a lot of hard work. Some years later he sold his creation for a tidy sum. Lightening can strike twice.

I woukld love to have a show like that but the fact is as soon as a large organization gets involved the price goes nuts.

NAB in Vegas cost more per square foot for a few days than buying a nice house. Everyone gets a great big piece of the pie until exhibitors get fed up then the show shrinks and they all suffer from their own greed.

Ned, we're going back today and most likely again tomorrow. Going to hit the convention center first then the brokerage show (and SAM's!) after that I think, time permitting. If you're going to be at the show, give me a call. 786-314-9314. Ed is here, too.

Ned...it happened! We were there; we visited; we left. Thanks for the beer!

The show is smaller than it was in the heyday, but seems busy. Several Hatt's were sold as of yesterday, and a couple of other manufacturers and systems folks I know have confirmed that there are buyers here.

We got caught up in the fever and bought two new boats.....they're just kayaks for Sanctuary, but hey, they're boats, right?
