We are pretty serious about coffee, and are accustomed to strong french roast coffee mixed 50/50 with hot milk. Warming the milk and dealing with the mess on the boat prompted me to search for a new tool. I found on Amazon, what seems to be ideal. Capresso Froth Pro

It heats 8 oz of milk in 3 minutes, and the milk does not scorch or stick to the container. It rinses clean after use, and you can have it froth the milk or not.

After brewing a pot of coffee, we put the coffee in a thermos, and I also found this one which seems to work better than most: Thermos Nissan 48-Ounce Wide Mouth Stainless-Steel Bottle

This allows us to turn off the coffee pot, avoiding the generator load and keeping the coffee from burning out. The milk warmer makes enough for 2 cups of coffee in each batch.

If you like coffee on the boat you might like this system.

That first cup of coffee in the morning is a must. The boat came from the PO with a Cuisinart that ground the coffee then brewed it, and discharged into a thermal carafe. After a few years the grinder gave out and then last year the whole thing went TU. Replaced it with an non-grinding Mr. Coffee and optional thermal carafe, has a timer and can be set for a "strong" (slow drip) brew. Has an extra filter that filters the water before it hits the grounds. It comes with a 12 cup glass carafe, the 8 cup thermal is an option, automatically detects the thermal so doesn't heat the bottom. So far so good. About 50 bucks all told. Similar to this one:

I don't personally need the milk frothing, as interesting as that product looks.

You big boat boys really know how to hurt a guy. We on our "space constrained mini Hatt" have to make do with a singe cup brewing system.

i like my coffee strong with frothed milk... On my boat, I have Krups expresso and drip, never use the drip side but the expresso side works well and provides good steam.

an easy way to froth the milk is to use a french press. Microwave a cup of milk, put it in the french press and pump a few times. Or if you dont' have a french press, just roll a whisk between your hand after microwaving the milk in a pyrex cup. quick and easy, and just as good as the fancy stuff.

if i don't have a counter top expresso maker, i use an old fashioned stove top expresso maker, works just as well anyway... these days i prefer cuban coffee, nice and strong!

i've tried those single serve thingies you pop in a fancy machine... overpriced and nothing special

For me.... coffee is served black....... No fuu fuu stuff in it....
And I don't drink it in the summertime...I drink unsweeten ice tea when I wake up....
(Now the Admiral on the other hand has a gold card for Starbucks... )

We use a Saeco Taleo on the boat. Works great for us to make regular coffee (for me), espresso (who can deal with that cr@p?), or cappuccino (wife). I won't claim it makes the world's best coffee because I don't know what that is. But I know we like the machine a lot. As a good friend of mine use to say, "You can always tell good coffee because it tastes terrible!

I hope the admiral realizes starbucks is not coffee.

it's the most overprices low quality over roasted beans you will ever spend $4.00 a cup for.
