Bill's Coming - and I don't mean Yachtsman

We just left Nantucket today (Friday), after watching 53MY Hatteras "Carpe Diem" come into a nice slip in the Nantucket harbor on Thursday. Now, Hurricane Bill is supposed to just glance the island, staying mostly offshore. Waves there are supposed to be at least 20 ft. I hope everything will be OK there as the breakwater to the harbor inlet channel was only about 6 inches above sea level.

They say Bermuda going to see the edges of it but everything has a bright side. Bill and Hilderbeast were vacationing there and left early because of the aproaching storm. So lets see the outer bands of a Cat 3 or bill and the hilderbeast. Yup that's an easy one get out the storm lines and take off the canvas!!!!

Pascal is running a charter out of Newport, RI starting this weekend. He said they will stay in port on Sunday. The Hatt Cam, which he took with him, may show some of the weather there.

Ok, Ok, after watching the Hattcam for the last two years, whats the deal? It shows a still frame from last night at 7:30pm. Is it real time or what?? ws

Because Andrew will NEVER be forgotten! I still have those images clearly in my head and I lived in Ohio at the time with no idea whatsoever that I'd ever live here or have a boat like this!

Uh-oh! Now I'm in the cone of death! Chester, Nova Scotia, on Mahone Bay. About 50 miles from Halifax.

Fortunately no boat. Everybody hauling as fast as possible. Current forecast sustained winds of 70 mph. Should hit sometime in the morning. Time to bring the porch furniture inside and generally lock down. Will fill in if the power stays on.

So since the Lk MI shores west of Grand Rapids, MI suffered 70+mph winds and much damage a couple weeks ago, does that rise to the level of almost a hurricane. Yes, there was much damage in-shore. No reports of boats damaged in the slips tho...

I think the worst of Bill is past. Halifax paper says 85 mph gusts, 23,000 homes w/o power. Luckily we are not one of these. Still blowing about 40, higher gusts, but sun came out. I have not seen any boat damage, but we are on the sheltered side of the harbor. Mostly a lot of rain--good for our well. The storm surge nearly topped our wharf, but fortunately high tide was a bit before peak surge. Looking forward to cocktail hour now!

Glad it wasn't too bad, and also that you didn't get any wharf damage as the local dock regulators are a bear up there.
