61' COCKPIT MY (1981 - 1985)
Hey guys! Hoping someone has this info because after all the flooding here, I noticed my boat was leaning forward/SB.

She's a 61' that got extened, so for her to be leaning nose down means a LOT of water came in, but I cannot find the water to get it out!

We did find the source... the deck drain outiside the SB pilot house door, directly over the VIP head medicine cabinet. The water came into that cabinet, but the bilge compartment under it doesn't have any water left in it.

I've checked forward bilge, generator room and sb bilge... all dry. WHERE would it go?

Cheers

Cockpit extensions are tricky. They ad buoyancy to the stern.
Fuel, potable water, black water and spare props usually go back there to help keep it down.
Then it's a balancing act to keep your boot level.
Did you just take on fuel forward?

When your forward black tank is flooded, stern tanks bingo, take on fuel forward, it's no surprise that your aft maybe showing.
Also when this happens, decks, windows, counter-tops, showers and more don't drain correctly.

Can you transfer fuel to the stern? Flood your aft potable water tanks? Pump-out your forward black water tank?

After a friend removed his main gen-set from his cockpit, his aft was really showing.

No, I had not fueled. Fuel tanks seem pretty "centered" under the companion way between the engine rooms, certainly not in the foward right quadrant. =-) Black tank not full and it's only 210 gallons, which shouldn't be enough to lean me, and it's centered in the genny room, so again shouldn't lean me forward/right.

Nothing had changed in weeks as far as rearranging things, but I did have that leak and with all the rain, it had to go somewhere. I guess I'll find it one day.

Thanks for answering though.

lol I keep my water tank full... not on dock water anymore. (it's foul!!!).

I will look at moving some stuff to the cockpit and I put the dinghy back up on top, which helped a little.

both my gennys are forwared already, so that isn't it.

I did take a fiberglass cabinet off the cockpit and move it to the flybridge, but then I built a new sitting area and cabinet on the aft deck which probably weighs about the same, so hmmm.

Did it make it into the bilge under the stbd main engine? Is there a chance water ended up outboard of your stringers and it isn’t draining back into the lower bilges? There are small holes (I call them limber holes) that allow water to drain across both frames and stringers. Might want to make sure those aren’t clogged (including purposely blocked from past projects from a previous owner). Also check the forward bilge to make sure you are as dry as possible. I’m in Fort Lauderdale and with all that rain we had I had my fwd bilge pump cycling due to leaving the cover off my anchor chain pipe. As for cockpit yachts they do tend to nose down due to the added buoyancy from the cockpit, especially aftermarket extensions so that might be amplifying the nose-down view.

Years ago on our 50 it started a list to starboard. I also noticed we were running out of hot water quickly. I run the boat hard and put it up wet so my bilges are never dry. But I didn’t notice the pump cycling. Had a friend used the forward head and said he heard a hissing noise. Cut a hole in the floor in the head and found a cracked hot water line the bilge under that area was unaccesable and was filled outboard the stringers. No drains in that area and I had to pump it out with a little giant pool cover pump I keep on the boat.ive since figured out there’s areas on the boat that can fill with water that you would never know it’s there.

Pour some water with food coloring where you suspect the leak is originating and the coloring will show you its route.
