Best prop size for 58 yachtfish

What are the prop sizes that people are useing on their 58 yachtfish or 53's?
I'm mostly going to be cruiseing at slow speeds and just once in a while powering up at the end of a trip to blow out the eng's.i have 4 blade 28's and 32's. Any info on this would be apreciated.

I could not make full load RPMs with the OEM 28x32's. I went down to 28x28.5 and find that works just right for my 53 with 6v92's.

Sky, we have 27 x 31 props on our 58YF (8v71) installed by PM. Exuse my ignorance, but what does this mean in terms of top speed, efficiency, loading, etc.? Thanks,

If you are a level 1 member of Boatdiesel.com, they have a prop calculator. You put in all the parameters and it will give you proper size. The neat thing is you can vary it and see the difference it would make in loading, fuel, etc. It is fun.

It will vary based on engines, transmissions and weight of the boat. I doubt a 58YF would use the same props as a 53 classic.

A general rule of thumb is that one inch in diameter equates to 2.5 inches of pitch. So your 27 x 31 are about exactly the same as my 28 x 28.5 props.
