Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
While in Mackinac Island over Labor Day, some real nice boats at the State Docks. Two very delicious Hatt 1510 53 footers, sitting side by side...stereo!

One boat was a 60' or so, not so old, Bertram sportfisher/convertible; at least she was in great shape. She looked big and fast. The owner looked to be in his late 60's early 70's. I asked what her power was, min 12v92's etc. He indicated that she had DD 16v92's!! I suspect she gets up on the step big time, maybe 40 knots?

I asked what were the biggest seas he had been caught in. He replied that on the maiden voyage, after he first bought her used a few years ago, when they brought her up Lk. MI, they encountered some very big seas. The USCG later said there were 13 footers. He said they were running hard and stuffed the bow bigtime into a 'rogue wave', but she shrugged it off. As you may notice, if you see one, that style has an 'upside down hull' shape just below the bridge, so waves coming aboard shouldn't be an issue.

Just a fun post about some glorious big boats.

Chances are her speed would have been 30knts. or less. If she was a boat any newer than 92 chances are she wouldn't have dd 16v92.s Hat 65's cica late 80's have that speed with 16's at enormous fuel burn rate 180gph + @ wot.

The Hat 60c, 2001 model that Wild Bill is capt on has twin 1800hs detroits or cats, cant remember. anyhow it has cruise of 30kts and i believe wot is upper 30kt close to 40 if I remember right. Believe it was a former Hatterascal.

Well ..... here is one topic that I can talk about. I was on Mackinac Island for 4 beautiful days over Labor Day Weekend and not only was one of those 53's mine, but good friends of mine own the other 53 plus the 60 Bertram. I know it will do over 32knts because that was a requirement for purchase, but you should have gotten a tour of the ER. I swear he sleeps down there. I missed the thrill ride on Lake Michigan since I was in charge of getting the car back to Cheboygan but Dick said that when they pulled into Leland the CG thought they were nuts. He has completley redone the boat inside and out .... but his 16's are his pride and joy. Engine hours are over 3300 and they run great! I do notice however that every year his "running sweet spot" has gotten lower.
I think it's the flow scans.

Here's a pic I had of the Bertram.
