1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
Finally decided to change out my batteries after 9 years. They have been in our mild So Cal climate being charged by an Outback inverter charger. I made the mistake of checking the voltage after they sat on the dock for 2 days and all were still at 8.38 volts. Oh well 9 years is enough anyway.

What are you replacing them with John?

Going to try some big golf cart batteries. Sounds like quite a few guys here have had success.

FYI, I just went through this exercise. You will need to be careful if using GC batteries as the terminals may not have sufficient capacity and might melt. Also, the AGM's are really not designed as start batteries although they may work depending on application.

In the end, I found the only GC batteries that would work (or made sense to me) were AGMS made by FullRiver. However, for the price, I was able to get the Rolls batteries. For me that made it a very simple decision. If you need a source for the Rolls, let me know and I'll PM you that info.

Just my $.02..... Hope it helps.

What brand/MFG were the 9 year old batteries that did work for you?
Could be a strong sign??

Ralph they came from powerstride it I think they were made by Deka

Flooded, AGM and mixes in-between. 4 to 5 years has been the life of mine and most other batteries. Some longer , some shorter.
9 years for you was great.
You in a hurry to change brands? Or box lay-out?

Just trying to be helpful .

so the AGM was the same cost as a Rolls flooded?

Went with NAPA SPECIALTY/GC Batteries 3 years ago. My observation is that they work and work well for me (12v71's have never hesitated to start) and port/house side has handled them well also with a Sterling Pro 32v charger attached to both banks. I am careful to check tightness of all connections prior to starting and when watering them (part of my routine maintenance schedule.

a flow rite watering system is a MAJOR enhancement for maintenance purposes FYI

Yes, for me it was virtually the same. Rolls 8HHG21P were $450/ea. The FullRiver DC200 were $441/ea. Prices are SW Florida, so may vary based on your location.

That pretty much made my decision for me. I'd expect 4-5 years on the AGMS but 9-10 on the Rolls. They are HEAVY though, so if that's a concern - I get it.

If you'd like the name of my dealer for the batteries, just PM me.

I had the battery watering system from the start, can’t imagine living without it. I am sure that was also a big part of the longevity of the batteries.
