Battery Banks

So the same year and model were different? I wonder if this was an option you spec'd when ordering it then? Obviously some people have the ability to select banks, but my boat doesn't, I wish it did, if for nothing else just to even out the wear & tear on the batteries.

In hindsight I should add that the first owner managed to seize up both engines and somehow it turned into a 3-way warranty agreement between Detroit, Hatteras and the owner. They opened up the hull on each side, R&R the engines and transmissions and replaced the hull sections. This was around 1987. The surveyor in 2020 didn't believe it until he saw pictures that we found in the boat. Somewhere along that time the starboard battery bank was disconnected from everything EXCEPT the Sentry charger, the boat was converted to 24V, and somewhere between then and 2020 the anchor windlass wiring was removed or disconnected or disappeared into an alternate universe. The only thing i know for sure is that I had to turn both rotary switches to ON in the engine rooms, and use the helm selector switch at the lower helm to choose "PORT" when starting each engine. I suspect that the starboard bank was supposed to be the house bank, but was never restored after the engine swap.

I ve always thought the DC system on most older haste was flawed. There should have been a starting bank for each engine and a separate house bank. No need to cut corners considering there was plenty of space on board.

Someone please show me where 4 or 8 more batteries would go in their 53/58 motoryacht. There's no room for storage of a 2 liter soda bottle forget a bunch of big batteries. Also how do they get charged in 1970 technology?
