This morning was prep day here in the Jacksonville area. With TS Beryl approaching, it was time to double up on the lines and add extra fenders to the boat. Latest prediction is sustained 65 mph winds and 3-6" of rain and 1-3' of higher tide surge. High tide is around midnight when the main storm is expected to hit our area. Not a great situation. We're already getting 20-25 gusts.

I hope everyone is and will be safe in the storm path. Let's hope it is less severe than predicted.

Beryl will catch us in Southport during our northward treck. We have been trying to figure the best way to deal with it as we move north through the Albemarle and Pamlico Sounds. Methinks we will just sit tight in Southport (Indigo Plantation Marina) tonight through Thursday AM and then get under way again.... in time for the next cold front. We are at Osprey Marina at mile 373 in the ICW right now getting ready to untie.

Sounds like a good plan Bob. The center passed through Jacksonville and winds were gusting to 70 mph with driving rain. We caught the top portion here in St Marys and have many trees down. Our boat was in the area hardest hit and we plan to head that way to check it out. Nobody answering at the marina.

We started.to get hit about mid.afternoon and.it.went downhill from there. The eyetpassed 35 miles southof me so we got thethe worse of it. Winds in.excess of 70 mph at times with sustained winds over 50. At about 3amto had waves breaking over the dock. Still gusty winds and.rain now but only damage was a 70+ft boat lost its canvas fly ridge roof. Was in contact with the Bird till 3am as he's in a marina 5 miles away

Charlie, are you at a marina? You're not far from me.

Came through okay but no power or water at the marina. Big rain band just now hitting and lots of wind. Sailbote (nice, big one) across from me is full of water and listing pretty good. Watched the power pedestal for the empty slip beside me blow over into the water and explode late afternoon yesterday. That's something you don't see every day! LOL

Do they charge extra for fireworks, Bird? Jus curious.

Hope you all are okay. I am thinking of my friend Akyla in the OBX, with his boat in Hatteras village. I assume this will reach us tomorrow, about the time I had planned to move Blue Note to a covered slip for painting. Dammit.

I will be back in SPT today and will come by as see yall. If you need anything call the dockmaster and tell him do drive a Hatt and you know me, so roll out the red carpet. Na seriously, I will take yall where ever you need to go. I wonder why they didnt put you at Deep Point Marina (guess they didnt have room).

Pate,

I chose Indigo because at the time the highest winds were forecast to be S or SE and this looked like better protection. Also I have friends near here.

Hope you can stop by!

Art,

How'd you make out up there?

Jason

Sorry Jason. Missed your question here. The boat rode it out very well. I doubled up the lines and added extra fenders. We had gusts of over 70 mph on the St Johns and there were some swamped boats and some that broke loose from private docks.

I wish they had been finished with my new canvas and vinyl. The old stuff allowed water into the bridge, but everything came out ok. Actually, I think it was less severe than Fay in 2008.

I'm hoping that was our blow for the season.
