Bankrupt

I used to own a plane and no matter how expensive the boat is, believe me the plane can out cost it in a heartbeat!

I just keep in mind this phrase - When you own a boat, you never have to worry about what to spend your time or money on.

At least that's one less thing to worry about :D

I'm thinking of buying a 53 hatteras classic and want to know what I should buget per year not including dockage as it will be docked at my own dock. The boat will stay in Va.-Md. area. The boat has fresh exterior paint. Thanks for any info.

I took a friend Marlin fishing for his first time and after day fishing he was so excited on our way back he asked "how much does it cost to do this"? like he was going to rush out and buy a boat. My regular fishing buddy pulled out his wallet and let a $100 bill go in the wind, and then another, and another went over the stern, by then the newbie was trying to grab them, he yelled "what are you doing"?, and my fishing buddy said" If you can't afford to do that!, you can't afford to go Marlin fishing"!

But seriously, one of the 53 owners can provide you with some good info.

Cheers :D

Chuck,

The costs you ask about outside of principal, interest, and slip on my 1983 53 Classic Motor Yacht are these:

Insurance $3500, Parts expenditures and repairs (varies considerably), but so far this season $5000, Annual bottom paint 3 1/2 gallons and 16 man hours,
annual teak maintenance 40 to 120 man hours, "projects" another 100 man hours. Most of the man hours are my own, but there are times when I need professional assistance. The Onan generator wouldn't start; after I checked all of the obvious, the repair guy was $100 / hour, and after trouble shooting, parts, and labor...my bill was about 1500. (Bad relay and solinoid in generator control box.)

Chuck,

A few months back there were a few excellent threads on this topic. I was actually reading one this afternoon and they hit on exactly what you're asking. Search "annual expense" and you'll pull some up, but one in particular that I read today was found here:
