At Long Last !!

After six years of dreaming, looking, and trying to sell the old one, we signed on the dotted line yesterday for a very nice 1985 53 ED here in Florida. Her current name is LIVE SLOW and we will rename her SECOND PRINCESS. I first have to give credit to this forum and especially Sky for all the information I have gained since September about the 53's and Hatteras in general. In the six years I have been on 26 different boats .... MN to NY to TN and Fl. Twenty have been Hatteras with all but 4 being 53's. As you can imagine we are both very excited and also nervous having our first trip being to take her home to Cheboygan, Mi. Stay tuned ..... we will have lots of questions. We plan to drive home this week and come back down in April for a 1st week of May departure. If anyone is heading up the ICW in that time frame please give a shout. You might get to meet the FIRST PRINCESS (Admiral)

Congratulations on your purchase! I have a feeling you may have purchased a boat another member may have been looking at as well! Sorry Bill, you snooze you lose!

Some people think it's bad luck to change the name of a boat. I personally think it's bad luck not to. I had to chuckle when I saw the previous name having commented along the lines of how so many words in the English are spelled the same which leads to confusion in some cases. "Live Slow" sounds like a motto which seems very appropriate in more ways than one depending on the condition of yourselves and the engines of your 53. Look at "Live" as in live television, and the name takes on a whole new meaning!

Let us all know the when's and the where's, or if you are indeed brave people, send me a PM. I have a boat in Florida and tons of member friends there. I'm sure we can help you in more ways than one when the time comes.

Hearty congrats, exsailor! Hope you enjoy that maiden voyage. You're probably going to enjoy just thinking about all you're going to do on her/with her/to her between now and then!

Congratulations ! My 58' is in Iuka, Miss.on Pickwick Lake on the Tombigbee, awaiting the trip to Chicago around May/June. If you elect to go this route, there is a low bridge (2) near Chicago that you will need to clear at about 19 feet. The Erie Canal isnt much better with about 15 low bridges to clear. That leaves the seaway and an extra 2000 miles.
Let us know what your plans are. If you come the river way, we can run together if you wish, and if you take the ICW, contact Doug Schuman on his
53' NONCHALANT heading (headed ) north. 'Ol FREEBIRD just made the trip south, but HASNT POSTED ANY PICS of the 70' he was running. Mario and Yaisy just made the trip south too, with a detailed BLOG of the journey. It will be the trip of a lifetime.
Does she have a radar arch? That will need to be lowered either way except for the seaway. ws yachtsman36@comcast.net

Exsailor - Congrats from a fellow Northern Michigan member who lives in the Traverse City area. We just bought a 41 convert a month ago in Fla, but it is staying there.

If you leave May 1st it will be lay-up time when you get here. For those who don't know we have 2 seasons here, winter and the 4th of July !!!

Heading back south this week with a truck FULL of tools and fishing gear. Should be ready to roll in 3 weeks when my wife joins me.

Boat is currently in Alva, Fl at mile 119 on the Okeechobee waterway. We plan on the ICW as much as possible, understanding we have to go outside at New Jersey. We are in no rush. By leaving May 1st, we'd like to be home by mid June at the latest. We have some extra crew planning to go part way with one person committed for the Canals. Had heard about the clearance problems, but I assume we will be OK since arch does hinge down.

I have made that trip before. We did the whole trip in 20 days from St. Pete to Lake MI. We stayed inside except from Cape May to N.Y. City. Then up the Hudson, across the Erie canal, out into Lake Ontario through the Otswego canal and then through the Welland Canal. It is all a pretty easy trip except for the Welland. You could go through the Trent-Severn instead, but that will take longer. I have never been through it, but I hear it is really beautiful.

You may want to break up the trip and stay a few days at some of the really nice places. We also left the boat near Annapolis for a few weeks to come home and do some catching up. That is about the half-way point with 10 days of running on each side of it.

As to the reference made my YottsmanWillie, I brought the 70 down the east coast from SC to FL.

Paul S aka starman gave me some hints I plan to try in listing pictures taken during that trip.

Congrats yet again. When you get to NYC pla a stop at pur Marina. Cheapest one with easy access to Manhattan that won't beat up a Hatteras. Only Marina that is better is just south of us. But the city access is not so grand (we commute daily so...)

Have reservation for Mackinac Island on 7/25 ... the only day available.
My bar locker at the Mackinac Island Yacht Club is always stocked. I'm told that stuff never goes stale. We will have to check.
