Anyone Know this 44 in Ft Lauderdale?

I really like the classic lines on the 44, more so than the 43. Not sure why, just looks more like a proper yacht not that the 43 is bad by any means. If someone is near Marina Bay at 95/84 in Ft. Lauderdale and willing to take a look, I'm interested in knowing what you find out.

I have been told that the headroom is less in the 44 than the 43. Can anyone confirm?

Handsome boat. Is that wooden trim strip OEM or was that added? I haven't seen a lot of these boats to know.

I like the look of a MY without the flying bridge, too. I have some old Hatteras ads courtesy of one of our forum members that show the 53' MY without the bridge. VERY salty, very good looking.

I was on a boat sunday that looks alot like that one. I'm not sure what model, it's docked behind Lauderdale Grande and also for sale. I'm in Mobile AL this week I should be back in Lauderdale friday and may be able to look at it this weekend.

A few weeks ago I was looking at a piece of floating junk at National Marine Liquidators as this boat cruised by on the New River. I was 50 yards away as she went by. She is a very nice looking yacht, at least from that distance. I later saw her tied up at Bahia Cabana- they must have made a lunch cruise.
The YW pics look very nice and the asking price is quite reasonable.

The varnished trim at the cabin top has been added, and looks nice. The aft hardtop looks to me like it has been modified/extended. She has the preferred 871's, and (my) preferred 2 staterooms. The only question in my mind would be if she has upper and lower berths in the forward SR, or a V berth. Either is possible. If you're looking for a classic Hatt MY, she looks like a good prospect.

I owned a 1967 version of this boat. They are definitely built like a fiberglass tank. At the same time beware of both the 120 volt and 12 volt electrical system. They are a terrible. From the design, to the wire and components used, to the actual installation, it is something less than you would expect on a Hatteras. At the same time, you do need to keep in mind that these boats were built 40 plus years ago. Also, the air conditioning in the boat is inadequate. It runs off one 120 volt 30 amp supply, and that is just not enough power to air condition that size boat. Mine had two 16K BTU units. To my thinking the 43 was a step forward by Hatteras in the overall systems quality, although the hulls are somewhat thinner.

Another item to be check closely is the rub rail and the intermediate rub rail. The ones on the 1967 boat I owned were wood with a stainless edge. Most Hatteras boats have the rub rail molded into the fiberglass hull and deck cap. Then they simply add the stainless edge. On the 44 MY there is no fiberglass protruding out from the hull surface, so in the early boats mahogany wood was added and later an aluminum extrusion was used. Both in my mind are a PITA to maintain. The wood breaks the paint surface at the slightest impact and then the water gets in and then the rot begins. I actually replaced the rub rail on my former boat with the aluminum extrusion. Big job. If the boat has 35 or 40 year old extrusions on it, guaranteed they are a mess by now as they did not have a stainless outer edge. Each contact of any consequence permanently marred the surface. Salt water corrosion is also a big problem. Most have been painted by now, with limited success, as paint does stick well to anodized aluminum. I think a 43 MY is a much better choice, but that is just one persons opinion.
