I know not having a boat in the Northeast is depressing enough, but now that the summer is over, any cold climate people got the blues? :(

Repeat after me, SUMMER IS NOT OVER, SUMMER IS NOT OVER, summer is not over, summer is .......

The blues???

Just came back from 2 weeks cruising the islands. Had a great time despite the rain. Spend yesterday cleaning the boat and will be listing it for sale today. Yeah, I guess I got the blues.

PS: If Passages sells, I will NOT be getting out of boating. $3-4 dollars per gallon be damned, I'll be looking for a newer 45-50' Hatteras, Viking or Post.

The blues don't stop biting until November.

And, the tog will bite thru early December. Anyone who thinks that the season ends on Labor Day obviously never has spent a 50 degree November day anchored over a wreck with the cabin structure breaking the wind and the sun in your face while doing a bale job on the tog.

In all honesty, October is my favorite month to be on the water, perhaps because so many PWCs, sailboats, SeaRays, and Bayliners have already pulled.

As of Labor Day, there remains a solid month of warm water (yes, I consider 70 warm) diving, the fishing is just starting to heat up, and the leaves will be turning color in about 4 weeks making for a gorgeous ride up the Conn River.

:D Couldn't say it better myself... :D
Thanks for making that clear ;)

I feel for all of you....Living in So California, 70 degrees is cool!

Another reason to live in Florida....

"Cold" here is having to put on a sweater and/or long pants a couple of times a year...

And IF it really gets cold, maybe socks.

On the other hand, we only run our air conditioning a few days a year, and then only to make sure it still works.

Dave, where are you? My electric bill for running the AC last month was $230 and I'm in north Baltimore. But, Florida is just a few weeks away. Well, maybe 6 weeks as we are going to run at 8 knots.

The N. Michigan weather forecast for Labor Day was for 15-20 mph winds, 2-4' seas, i.e. reduced fun quotient. As the weather will do up there, it did not cooperate with the forecast, as it was fabulous weather, and the Tuesday after Labor Day was out of site. As Yogi sez, it ain't over til its over...still some boating weather left in the Midwest. I go up on the hard in late Sept, early-mid Oct. As luck would have it, some of the nicest weather happens in Oct, while we are outside (we store outside) winterizing, when I wish I was still in the water.

So I don't have the blues...yet...P.s., we have set up a camcorder and taped some trips...makes for great watching during a snow storm...I luv to listen to the 6-71's wind up in absentia.

I lost the blues for 48 hours, as a few of us were going to the canyons for an overnight trip this Sunday. Weather will cancel it now. Just call me BLUE BOY!

Okay, reality has set in. The high temps this weekend in Michigan were barely 60 degrees. I see the forecast is for 82 and sunny next weekend, but the blues will soon set in as we just got a dose of what is inevitabley to come.

I love boating in the winter time. The sky is much more blue, and there's not an idiot it site to mess up the view! Looks like I'll have the best of both worlds this winter as I'll have my fully enclosed (and heated) 41 in Tennessee and my 58 in Florida (yes, you may kiss my ring!)

My favorite thing to do in regards to winter boating is to go out at night ideally after a good snow with a full moon. The river is black, and the land is white. It makes for an awesome black and white photo. Unfortunately, we don't get much snow in Tennessee, so I've only been able to do this 3 times in the past 25 years!

Free: Consider your ring kissed.
regards
Blue Boy

For the first time ever, I'm really looking forward to winter (in Miami)! That's so I can turn off the AC and leave the windows open. When I sold the house, I left the snow shovel hanging in the garage and vowed never to own one again. Probably won't own a real house again either... :) The only evidence of winter I want to ever want see again is under my snow skis somewhere west of the Mississippi or far south of the equator. Being from the Midwest, I can say that summers there are heavenly, but they're just too darn short! So, when you guys up north get the blues, come visit us way down here and go for a boat ride, a "Hatt Ride" that is!

I don't know what it is but the shorter days have already affected my mood. I have not been able to spend much time on the water this year, and Boss Lady is already 4 months behind. I have already decided to move Boss Lady south when she gets back in the water for the winter. The only way to get my summer back! How far south I have not decided yet, any good recommendations out there?

Hey Gooz Mon,

Glad to hear your turbos are blowin'. My wife still hates the table and says it's nothing more than a tasteless statue of a naked woman. I told her it was a nautical work of art and asked if she'd ever seen a mermaid wearing a one-piece. Maybe I'll get my mermaid a tube top for when company comes!

Hey Chris,

We've got plenty of parking places down at Riviera Dunes. With the exception of a certain dock Nazi who shall remain nameless, everybody is real nice down there. I'm sure I can get you a $500 per month slip right down from me and Pat. We'll have us a fine time messing with the people on the "North" dock. They're already on notice that the South's gonna do it agin. Boss Lady would make for only the third Hatt (sorry, Byron) in the marina. It's full of Carvers and Sea Rays and one sweeeet Bertram 63 fishing boat that Pat and I had a sit-down dinner on last week.

freebird your back cooool...
My turbos are old but acting ok for any trip whats the next plan???? I went out today and she was fine with no smoke :p
